A suspected former NPA leader was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman past 9 p.m. last January 15, 2009. “Ronald Sendrijas was buying medicine at a drugstore in Gallares St. when two assailants arrived on a motorcycle,” said Chief Insp. Jacinto Cesar.
One of the assailants, believed to be in his late 30s and 5’3″ to 5’4″ tall, approached Sendrijas and shot him twice. Then the assailants fled the scene on their motorcycle.
Based on the investigation done by the police, Sendrijas had been receiving death threats in the past several months. His sister, Arlene Pasagad, told police that a text message have been sent to her brother saying he would be killed on his birthday.
Dennis Abarrientos, secretary general of Karapatan in Central Visayas, has accused the military of the incident. In which, the military responds that due to Sendrijas’ cooperation with the military to arrest NPA members, the victim’s former colleagues could have killed him.
