The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has set March 28, 2009 as the synchronized Barangay Assembly Day for all the barangays of the Philippines. This is in pursuant to Proclamation No. 342 that was issued by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2003, declaring the last Saturday of March 2003 and the third Saturday of October 2003 and every year thereafter as Barangay Assembly Day.
All Barangay residents from 15 years old and above, even not a registered voter in the barangay but have resided in the locality for six months are enjoined to participate in the Synchronized Barangay Assembly Day.
DILG enjoined the provincial governors, city and municipal mayors to extend assistance to the barangays in order to ensure the successful conduct of the Barangay Assemblies on March 28. (PIA)
