President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has designated the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as a member of the Teacher Education (TEC). This is in order to strengthen the existing mechanisms and role of the Presidential Task Force on Education (PTFE) in synchronizing and harmonizing the country’s education system.
In Executive Orders (EOs) 729 and 730, the President cited the “need to include the technical-vocational sector of education to the TEC and to educate and train the technical-vocational teachers of unquestionable integrity and competence.”
The two EOs were signed by the President on June 4, 2008.
The PTFE, on the other hand, was created by EO 652, which the President signed on Aug. 21, 2007 “to assess, plan and monitor the entire educational system.”
The two EOs shall take effect 15 days after their publication in a national newspaper of general circulation. (PIA/Bohol)
