Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ralph G. Recto recently called for the implementation of unemployment insurance for the laid-off workers and more scholarships for the youth.
Recto proposes that the unemployment insurance be made available to Social Security System (SSS) members who have been working and contributing to the agency for two years and have recently lost his/her job.
Around 6,500 OFWs were laid off, compared to the 50,000 domestic workers as of March 10. There are also around 60,000 working less due to compressed work weeks, job rotation, and forced leaves. (NEDA-PIA)
