PGMA cites Syrian role as imp’t to Mindanao peace

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo cited the crucial role Syria plays in bringing peace and stability to southern Philippines, this she said as she arrived in the world’s oldest city.

The Philippine delegation led by the President Syria courts the help of Syria, the current chair of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and one of the most influential groups in the Arab world.

She said, to achieve a lasting peace in Mindanao will require the collective efforts of the Philippine Government and friends and allies around the world.

Syria would also be hosting the 36th Islamic Council of Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and wants to be admitted as observer in its efforts to get the peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front on track.

To attain peace and progress in Mindanao, the President said the Philippine government has been enlisting the support of Muslim nations including OIC-member states.(PIA)
