FDA to reactivate adboard representation

The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is to reactivate its representative to the ad board so as to screen further advertisements of herbal supplements. This is in action to the numerous complaints from the public particularly the concerned medical profession over the proliferation of advertisements from health supplements with purported medicinal and therapeutic claims.

FDA administrator Nazarita Tacandong said that the former Bureau of Food and Drugs used to have a representation in the adboard to screen these advertisements of heath supplements. Before it is approved by the adboard, the commercial will have to be approved by the BFAD representative first.

However the system was discontinued four years ago, hence, advertisements can now just go to the adboard without being cleared by the BFAD or now the FDA. (PIA)
