Throughout the country, September is commemorated as the National Peace Consciousness Month . This is in pursuant to Proclamation No. 675 issued by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2004.
The Proclamation embodies the call to unify the nation and to make everyone aware of his or her role in the promotion and attainment of peace.
This year’s theme is “Una sa Lahat, Kapayapaan: Putting the Peace Agenda at the Forefront.”
The celebration enjoins all to initiate and participate in meaningful activities aimed at instilling greater public consciousness and appreciation for the culture of peace.
The celebration is also primarily intended to create awareness among the general public on the overall comprehensive peace process and gain support to all endeavors relative to the peace and development agenda. It also hopes to effectively convey the importance of peace in nation building and development. (PIA)
