IT used to be that campaign materials used for the election season are made of paper or those that are biodegradable.
But now, it’s a different story. The campaign season for synchronized presidential and local elections on May 10, 2010 is considered to be the time of tarp, short for tarpaulin. They proliferate everywhere illegally in the province, as long as, candidates find it strategic, apparently to project their good image with promises of good governance and certain advocacies.
Provincial Environment Natural Resources Officer Nestor Canda confirmed in an interview that tarpaulin and other related materials used for campaign are destructive to the environment because they are considered non-biodegradable.
