August 21 is special non-working day

Via Proclamation No. 1699, August 21, 2009 (Friday), will be a special non-working working day as the country commemorates the Ninoy Aquino Day.

If an employee works on this special day he/she is entitled to an additional compensation of at least 30 per cent of his/her basic pay for the 1st 8 hours or a total of 130 per cent. In excess of 8 hours, an employee is entitled to an additional 30 per cent of hourly rate on said day.

Workers who are not required to work on special days are not entitled to any compensation as “no work, no pay” principle applies. (PIA)
