“In no uncertain terms, there will be election in 2010″. This was the statement disclosed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
This statement emanated from the endless speculation by her critics that the election will not push through.
However, Arroyo said that the “poll automation” will surely go on and even congratulated the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for having done the finishing touches to effect the modernized voting process. Arroyo asked the local chief executives to give their full support to the electoral process. (PIA)

Lakip na usab sa probisyones nga nasukip sa balaod mao ang pagdili sa mga tag-iyag paabangang balay sa pagkolektag advance rent nga kapin sa usa ka buwan ug deposito nga kapin sa duha ka buwan.
Hinuon kining balaod moepekto lamang sa mga residential units sa Metro Manila ug dagkong syudad diin ang abangan dili molapas sa P10,000 santang epektibo usab sa nag-abang ug P5,000 nga balay sa lugar nga gawas sa Metro Manila ug dagkong syudad. (PIA)

The Parole and Probation Administration office marks its 33 years of public service on July 24, 2009. This is to be highlighted by the observance of Parole and Probation Week starting July 18 with the theme of “Sound Mind in a Sound Body: The Key to Outstanding Public Service.”
The office is implementing a program to rehabilitate probationers, parolees and pardonees and promote their development as integral persons by utilizing innovative interventions and techniques which respect the dignity of man and recognize his divine destiny.
Probation is a privilege granted to a person convicted of a criminal offense to serve punishment outside prison, subject to conditions imposed by the sentencing court and under the supervision of a Probation and Parole Officer.
On the other hand, parole refers to the conditional release of an offender from a correctional institution after serving the minimum period of prison sentence under the continued custody of the State and under conditions that permit reincarceration for violation of a condition for release. The country remains to be strong despite the global economic crisis felt worldwide. Amando Tetangco, Jr., Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor, said that the steady remittance of overseas Filipinos signals that the country remains strong. It grew year-on-year by 3.7 percent in May 2009 to reach a record high of US$1.48 billion.
Tetangco said that the second highest level of remittances, at US$1.47 billion, was registered in March 2009. He added that the cumulative remittances for the first five months of the year totaled US$6.98 billion, representing a 2.8 percent increment from the level recorded in the same period last year.
Remittances from both sea-based and land-based workers posted gains at 4.6 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively.
Tetangco disclosed that the major sources of remittances from January to May this year were the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Italy and Germany. (PIA)
