Examiners of the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) are suspicious of fake money claims on insured deposits of the closed Pilipino Rural Bank (PRBank) Tagbilaran Branch.
The careful evaluation of deposit claims has delayed the releases to depositors. Until all records have been examined and verified by PDIC, not all claims can be processed.
There is no definite date when the PDIC will be back to process the next batch of claims which covers deposits above P100,000, the PDIC personnel concluded.

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration – Region 7 (OWWA-7) has given financial assistance to 168 displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) to help them start their own business.
In a public consultative meeting, OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dizon with Felix C. Guanzon, Presidential Assistant for Central Visayas and deputy administrator Teresita Manzala handed over checques to the first batch of beneficiaries.
OFWs who would like to avail of the program will submit their business proposals and will undergo business counseling and entrepreneurial training. (PIA-7/hfg)

The Department of Education (DepEd) and Microsoft Philippines bolstered a partnership to enhance the Philippine educational system through ICT-enabled teaching and learning.
With the objective to improve our basic education, Partners in Learning increased technology access for public schools throughout the country and enabled school administrators and educators to train in effectively integrating ICT in classroom teaching.
Partners in Learning will focus through three program areas : Innovative Schools, Innovative Teachers and Innovative Students.
Innovative Schools helps schools around the world to move beyond the limits of the classroom and traditional learning models. While Innovative Teachers connects and empowers educators worldwide. And also Innovative Students aims to provide students with access to programs and curriculum that help fully integrate technology into the learning process, both in school and at home. (DepEd)

A global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of our kidneys, and in reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide will be spearheaded by the Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN), as such March 12, 2009 is celebrated as World Kidney Day (WKD).
Satellite lectures will be conducted by nephrologists in other cities nationwide in order to raise awareness about the importance of our kidneys.
The 2009 campaign highlights the importance of high blood pressure as one of the key symptoms and causes of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) with the theme: “Keep the pressure down.” (PIA)

March is national women’s month and the theme for this year is, “Babae, Yaman ka ng Bayan.” It highlights the critical role of women in nation-building and also recognizes that women are an important resource who can contribute to the reduction of poverty.
This year’s theme supports the fulfillment of the country’s international treaty obligations, particularly Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Millennium Declaration, and International Labour Organizations (ILO) conventions.
The objectives for the women’s month is to serve as a venue for sharing of inspiring stories of women entrepreneurs, lessons learned and good practices in entrepreneurial activities. (PIA)
