Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Joseph H. Durano has just announced the offering of stimulus tourism packages in the United States to encourage more Americans to visit the Philippines.
The tour package which costs only $999 includes roundtrip international airfare from San Francisco, Los Angeles or Las Vegas via Philippine Airlines, two (2) night hotel accommodation in any of the selected deluxe hotels, daily American breakfast and one-way transfer from the airport to hotel or vice versa. The tour operator consortium is composed of Air Travel Center, GTT International, LBC Travel, Pacific Air Leisure, and Travelfast International. The official ground-handler for this extraordinary tour package is San Francisco-based Rajah Tours International; while the participating hotels are Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Crowne Plaza Galleria, Diamond Hotel, Holiday Inn Galleria and Dusit Thani Hotel. This package is available only up to May 23, 2009.
In addition to the basic package in Metro Manila, extension adventure tours to Palawan, Cebu, Bohol, Boracay and Cagayan de Oro are also offered at affordable costs. (perryscope.org)

Under the government’s Social Integration Program (SIP), President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo awarded a total of P1.14 million as immediate economic assistance to 57 rebel-returnees.
Each of the rebel-returnees received P20,000 as immediate cash aid to start life anew in mainstream society. They are also entitled to P50,000 under the SIP as capital assistance in the form of working animals, farm implements, and/or and sari-sari store goods, among others to help them rebuild their economic and social lives. The Manila International Airport Authority announced that it will invest P3 billion to build the much awaited Panglao International Airport in the province of Bohol.
According to Tirso Serrano, assistant general manager for airport development and corporate affairs, the consultancy firm TGCI Engineers had completed the feasibility study while Phil JAC Inc. had been commissioned to do the new airports detailed design.
The agency, which has administrative control and supervision over all international airports, said it would also help upgrade and build Caticlan Airport, the gateway to the resort island of Boracay.
For his part, general manager of the airport agency Alfonso Cusi,, said that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport has increased its capacity to 32 million passengers a year with the opening of Terminal-3.
The agency also disclosed plans to expand the terminal to better handle the increasing passenger traffic.

Liquified Petroleum Gas retailers will cut down prices by Php 1 per kilogram Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
Current LPG prices range between Php500 and Php580 per tank. While current diesel prices are estimated between Php 22.24 and Php 28.45 per liter.
Meanwhile, Petron Corporation, Caltex Chevron, PPTT Philippines Corporation, Seaoil Philippines and Pilipinas Shell have reduced their diesel prices by Php 1 per liter today. (PIA-MMIO)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Monday directed the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) to put up temporary processing centers in the provinces as a way to speeding up the Filipino veterans’ benefits.
To be called as PVAO Fast Track Centers, President Arroyo said the processing centers will be put temporarily in the provinces with the large number of World War II veterans.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, grants a one-time lump-sum payment of $15,000 for each US-based Filipino WWII veteran and $ 9,000 for those living in the Philippines. (PIA-MMIO)
