SSS cuts interest rates of business, social loans

The Social Security System (SSS) has cut its interest rates of its social and business loans. This action is to encourage more businesses, schools and hospitals to avail of SSS credit facilities and spur socio-economic growth in the country.

SSS cuts down interest rates from six (6) percent to 5.5 percent for loans with a term of one year; from seven (7) percent to 6.25 percent for a term of over one to three years; from 8 to 7 percent for more than three to five years; and from 9 percent to 8.5 percent for over five to ten years.

Under the Special Financial program, the pension fund offers loans of up to Php50-million for SMEs. Under the Industry Loan Program , large-scale companies can borrow Php51-million to Php500-million. SSS offers special loans to tourism projects, hospitals and educational institutions.

SSS business and social loans are coursed through the pension fund’s accredited banks. (SSS/PIA)

DOH did job in Manila Bay cleanUp

The Department of Health (DOH) yesterday denied allegations that they are not complying with the Supreme Court (SC) decision concerning the Manila Bay cleanup.

DOH said that since May 5, 2009, the DOH reported to the Department of Environment & Natural Resources (DENR) that it has issued a memorandum (dated February 2, 2009) to all directors of the DOH-Centers for Health Development nationwide regarding the requirement of the SC decision.

The DOH is directed to determine if all licensed septic tank and sludge companies have the proper facilities for the treatment and disposal of fecal sludge coming from septic tanks.

The DOH urges the public to tap only legitimate septic tank desludging operators, such as MWSI and MWCI, to service their septic tanks. (PIA)

CSC urges agencies, LGUs to submit anti-red tape programs

The Civil Service Commission (CSC) urged all government agencies and local government units (LGUs) to submit anti-red tape programs to the Anti-Red Tape Task Force before June 16.

CSC has already released the names of 250 agencies nationwide that have completed their Citizens Charters, installed public help desks and began to crack down on fixers.

The Citizens Charter identifies the front-line services offered, the step-by-step procedures, the employee responsible for each procedure, the amount of fees, the documents to be presented by the client and the procedure of filing complaints in relation to the requests or applications.

Provinces cited as exemplars in front-line service delivery include La Union, Cavite, Camarines Sur, Bohol, Bukidnon, Northern Samar, Cotabato, Agusan Del Sur and Maguindanao. (PIA)

DepEd to conduct A&E exam in October

The Department of Education (DepEd) will be conducting the Accreditation and Equivalency (A&E) test in the four Sundays of October 2009. The aforementioned exam is to measure the competencies of those who have not finished formal elementary or secondary education.

The A&E exam is part of the DepEd’s commitment to the goals of Education For All (EFA) by 2015.

The A & E test is free. The deadline for registration is on August 31, 2009. Examinees should register in any of the 199 designated registration and testing centers nationwide.

Qualified to take the test are unemployed or underemployed out-of-school youths or adults, drop-outs or those who have left the formal schools, persons with physical disabilities and inmates, rebel or soldier integrees.

The test taker should accomplish a registration form and submit the requirements for registration like two 1″x1″ latest photo, proofs of identification like copy of birth certificate, company or employer ID, postal ID, voter’s ID, TIN, SSS or GSIS card, valid driver’s license, valid passport or Form 138. LMP Visayas Island Conference reminds DA on P1M farm-to-market-road promise, calls for conference of upland municipalities

The League of Municipalities of the Philippines Visayas Island Cluster Conference passed a resolution reminding the Department of Agriculture thru Secretary Arthur Yap of his P1 Million for farm-to-market road projects promise.

The Visayas Mayors who were present noted that the promise was made by Secretary Yap two years ago during the General Assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines.

Another resolution passed called for the holding of a conference for upland municipalities. The Visayas Island Cluster observed that a Conference for Coastal Municipalities has been conducted so that the municipalities could share the best practices, identify their concerns and collectively identify the interventions needed.

The Visayas Island Cluster Conference was attended by the municipal mayors from Western Visayas or Region 6, Central Visayas or Region 7 and Eastern Visayas or Region 8. (PIA)
