Senator Legarda on the welfare of Teachers

Senator Loren Legarda in a phone-patched interview over DYRD AM radio program “Sangonan” heard only every Saturdays, expressed recognition to the teachers for their invaluable role in building a strong nation. The lady Senator cited the three bills she filed in the Senate to further improve the status of teachers economically and professionally. These bills are: 1. Senate Bill No. 72, An Act Providing for Security of Tenure, Code of Conduct and Additional Benefits to Teachers, Amending for the Purpose Republic Act No. 4670, otherwise known as the Magna Carta for Public School Teachers, and for other purposes; 2. Senate Bill No. 1088, An Act Regionalizing the Department of Education Payroll System and for other purposes; and 3. Senate Bill no. 1611,An Act Upgrading the Minimum Salary Grade Level of Teachers from Salary Grade 10 to 19.

Loren declared that it is high time that the plight of  public school teachers should be looked into and help provide a better and improved work environment as well as living conditions for the teachers and their families.

Senator Legarda added that as the founder of Luntiang Pilipinas, an environmental foundation founded in 1998, she entered into a partnership with the education department through Education Secretary Jesli Lapuz and other education officials to jointly undertake programs for reforestation and the enhancement of the environment.

 

During the interview, she announced the Nationwide Search for the Best School Forest Park. The lady Senator said that through the competition, young people will gain better appreciation of trees and the environment in general. Regional winners of the said competition shall be awarded a fully functional computer laboratory and the grand prize winner will be awarded, apart from the computer laboratory, a cash prize to be used for the construction of a school building. The nationwide search commenced in the month of June 2008, on the opening of the academic year and will conclude two years thereafter. Senator Loren said it is to give public high schools sufficient time to establish and maintain these forest parks. Loren added that DepEd already issued a memorandum circular informing all public high schools of the mechanics of the competition. Loren seeks a whole-hearted support and commitment from teachers to encourage students to participate in this very noble endeavor.

 

City Mayor vows to focus on infrastructure after pro-people concerns.

City Mayor Dan Neri Lim of Tagbilaran reiterated his determination to accomplish priority projects before his term ends. During his “Mayor’s Report” aired over DYRD AM, he expressed confidence over his administration’s infrastructure plan to soon be implemented  with the support from the Sangguniang Panlungsod, Liga ng mga Barangay and the Sangguniang Kabataan, more so,  after a P150 million city loan was paid off. Mayor Lim cited the construction works of the Agora rehabilitation which is on full swing and expected to be ready for operation before December this year. The mayor said after giving priority to pro-people concerns like education, healthcare, garbage collection and senior citizens, he will now focus on infrastructure and physical development of the city.

CITTRA on strict implementation of traffic rules and regulations.

Tagbilaran City Traffic (CITTRA) enforcers claimed to have gathered P18,220.00 net in issuance of citation in only 25 days from May 30 to June 26. City Traffic Supervisor Jeremy Miro said that the implementation of traffic rules and regulations, particularly, the “No Parking” violation and the assignment of motorists route will strictly be complied. CITTRA, presently, claimed to have only 15 members in the traffic force.
