The provincial government of Bohol is inviting all Boholanos to the commemorative activities on October 15, 2014 in various venues as outlined in the program of activities at the webpage http://www.bohol.gov.ph/index.php??=boholEarthquakeMemorial .

Last year, just past 8:00AM, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit Bohol with epicenter at Sagbayan, Bohol. The geological event damaged several critical infrastructure like bridges, roads and buildings. The damaged bridges isolated some towns like Maribojoc, Loon and Antequera from Tagbilaran and Tubigon making delivery of relief goods very difficult. Reconstruction efforts and restoration of utility services were also a challenge for all sectors involved.

Several centuries old churches were also badly or completely damaged, including UNESCO listed Baclayon and Loboc churches. These two churches are in danger of being delisted from the from UNESCO’s nomination to the World Heritage Sites.

The commemoration activities will include a tolling of bells on October 15, 2014 at 8:12AM for 33 seconds. There will also be an Inauguration of an Art Exhibit and a motorcade to the proposed memorial shrine.
