Nine women aged 18 and below, all from Getafe town and about to board a Cebu Pacific flight for Manila were intercepted with their recruiter an agent of Bernardino Employment Agency, according to Tagbilaran Aviation Security Station Officer. The nine female passengers were already on their way to the pre-departure area at the City Airport when spotted by Police S/Insp. Donatila Sotto and could not present any identification cards and birth certificates, when asked by the aviation police. More so, their recruiter could not present any document when asked by Sotto. Sotto said, based on information gathered after the incident, there were other similar occasions that a group of young female passengers were accompanied by a recruiter bound for Manila. Sotto requested that Women’s Desk should be set up at the city airport with additional personnel to monitor human trafficking and other related crimes. Women in the towns are asked to be extra careful in accepting offers for job opportunities to avoid becoming victims of human trafficking. Police Senior Inspector Sotto suspects young female Boholanas are targets of human trafficking syndicates operating in Manila.
