The Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) leaders’ summit in Indonesia last week, focused on the heightened attention on the urgency to preserve the environment and the Coral Triangle against the onslaught of global warming. The CTI-member countries are the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Timor Leste, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo described the Coral Triangle as “potentially the world’s most important ‘refuge’ for marine life – but only if we do our part to keep it in good health.” (PIA)

Even in the midst of a global economic crisis, Filipino electrical engineers are still in demand around the world.
“There is a slack in hiring but the engineers are still in demand in the globe.” said Engineer Arthur Escalante National President of the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines Inc. or IIEE.
Escalante estimates that about 500 electrical engineers leave the country every year. About 40% of the engineers are deployed in the Middle East, others in Australia and the New Zealand. He adds that the services of electrical engineers are so specialized that they are indispensable to almost any aspects and not just limited to construction, an industry which have been hit hard by the recession.
Escalante says that there are about 25,000 licensed EEs, yet the number is lacking as the profession is also in demand in the country. (PIA)

Secretary Ronaldo Puno of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and Vietnamese Minister of Public Safety Le Hong Anh is set to hold exploratory talks in the area of transnational crimes.
The aforementioned officials will have talks focuses on reinforcing the ties between Manila and Hanoi, and in the fight against illegal drugs and international terrorism. They will also discuss the details of the implementation of certain aspects of the RP-Vietnam Action Plan for 2007-2010 that covers political, security and defense concerns and the Cooperation Agreement on the Prevention and Fight Against Criminal Activities (CAPFACA) between the two countries.
DILG Secretary Puno is in Vietnam May 10-15. This is upon the invitation of his counterpart, Vietnamese Minister of Public Safety Le Hong Anh. (PIA)

MALAMPUSON ang tumong sa lakaw ni President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo sa Syria, kon ang basehan mao ang pagtugot sa Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) nga mamahimong observer sa mga kasabutan sa mga nasud nga Muslim.
Sa samang pagtugot, nakab-ot sa Pilipinas ang mas lapad nga tsansang masuportahan sa pangindahay niini nga kab-oton ang tunhay nga kalinaw sa Mindanao, nga karon gihulga sa kagubot sa mga bahan nga Muslim.
Subay sa taho, si Press Secretary Cerge Remonde mibutyag nga may 57 ka Muslim nga nasud ang sakop sa OIC. Dugang niya, may komitiba na nga naghipno sa pamaagi sa pagsulod sa Pilipinas sa umaabot nga tigum sa OIC sa Mayo 23-25.
