Bohol ICT Council Attends Regional MSME Conference

The Bohol ICT Council represented by Chairperson Ms. Leah T. Magno and vice chair Engr. Jerome Auza, attended the Regional Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Conference on June 19, 2012 at the City Sports Club Cebu, Cebu Business Park, Cebu City.  The conference was organized by the Private Sector Promotion (SMEDSEP) Program of  the Department of Trade and Industry – Region VII (DTI-7) and the German International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

Together with Magno and Auza are Ms. Marietta Gasatan, President of the Bohol Chamber of Commerce, Atty. Lucas Nunag, Chairperson of the Bohol Provincial Tourism Council, Ms. Inday Dominise of the Bohol Investment and Promotions Center, representatives from DTI-Bohol and other MSME stakeholders in Bohol.

Magno discussed about the opportunities and challenges in the IT industry in Bohol during the “Conversations on the Development of IT-Enabled Services” while Nunag shared experiences in the tourism industry in Bohol during the “Conversations on the Development of the Tourism Sector”

The conference participants were welcomed by Mr. Prudencio J. Gesta, President of the CCCI.  Cebu City Mayor Michael L. Rama, Dr. Volker Steigerwald, Program Manager of GIZ – Private Sector Promotion (SMEDSEP) Program, and Ms. Asteria C. Caberte, Regional Director of DTI-7 gave keynote messages.

TechTalk: IT Enthusiasts Organizes First Meetup in Bohol

Information technology (IT) enthusiasts organized its first meetup in Bohol at the Auza.Net Training Center at the K of C Recreation Center on June 9, 2012. The meetup was attended by a mix of entrepreneurs, professionals, hobbyists and students and a representative of TechTalks.ph – Cebu. The group introduced themselves and talked about their experiences in IT in Bohol and also discussed potential opportunities.

The meetup was organized by Ben Skelton, a British entrepreneur who has a setup shop in Baclayon, Bohol and Jerome Auza of Auza.Net in coordination with Ms. Tina Amper of TechTalks.ph. Ms. Amper is currently based in California and provided the help through online methods. Ppip Cimafranca, a member of TechTalks.ph – Cebu travelled to Tagbilaran to attend the meetup and share his insights and experience with TechTalks.ph – Cebu. The students expressed their interest to learn relevant matters on the IT industry that might help them in future work or ventures.

The Cebu group has organized Startup Weekend Cebu (http://cebu.startupweekend.org/) on May 11-13, 2012 and a similar activity is being discussed by the Bohol group. Startup Weekend started in Boulder, Colorado and became a Seattle, Washington based non-profit organization. It organizes 54-hour weekend events during which groups of developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and more pitch ideas for new startup companies, form teams around those ideas, and work to develop a working prototype, demo, and/or presentation by Sunday evening.

Such an activity may help spur IT based projects based in Bohol that may become successful worldwide products and services.

Aquino invites British investors to participate in government’s PPP projects

PRESIDENT Benigno S. Aquino III has urged British investors to participate in the Philippine government’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects.

President Aquino extended the invitation during his meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday here as part of his official visit to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In the joint statement of President Aquino and Prime Minister Cameron, the two leaders agreed to further expand economic cooperation to pave the way for increased trade and investment flows between the Philippines and UK.

During the meeting, the Philippine leader also briefed Prime Minister Cameron on the Philippines’ Public-Private Partnership program and invited the UK government and the business sector “to continue sharing its vast expertise in this area, and encouraged British
investors to participate in the projects.”

The UK leader, in turn, assured President Aquino that the UK government had provided and would continue to provide expertise to the Philippines in shaping its PPP program and looked forward to British companies participating in projects.

The Philippines and the United Kingdom have enjoyed a robust economic partnership over the years. The United Kingdom is the Philippines’ top European investor, and the largest Philippine tourism market in Europe.

President Aquino also emphasized that the Philippines offered exciting investment opportunities for British business, especially in the sectors of energy, infrastructure, business- process outsourcing, information technology and tourism.

After his meeting with the UK Prime Minister, President Aquino attended the luncheon offered by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and presided by Minister Jeremy Browne and the Lord Mayor of London Alderman David Wootton at the Lancaster House. (PCOO)

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, June 06 (PIA)–Adunay bag-ong grading system nga ipatuman ang Department of Eductaion (DepEd) alang sa Grade 1 ug Grade 7.

Sa bag-ong sistema, letra na ug dili mga numero ang mga grado.

Grade A o advanced kun 90 percent pataas ang marka nga ihatag sa estudyante.

Grade P o Proficient gikan 85-89 percent, Grade AP o Approaching Proficient gikan 80 hangtud 84 percent, Grade D o Developing gikan 75 hangtud 79 percent ug Grade B o Beginning kun 74 percent o mas ubos pa.

Adunay pasidaan ang ubang eksperto nga posibleng mawagtang ang competitiveness sa mga bata tungod kay halos magkapareho lamang ang grado.
