THE P6M Kauban sa Reporma (KR) Kalayaan Resettlement Center fully opens next week with 15 new houses for rebel returnees in Barangay Remedios Danao.
The resettlement center is established in a 50 hectare area of barangay Remedios and is the second of Bohol’s sites developed to provide a conducive venue to facilitate the government’s social reintegration program under Administrative Order 172, series of 2007, said Provincial Social Welfare and Development Officer Constancia Tunacao.
With the 15 former rebel families now owning their own houses and a patch of land to held them find a decent source of livelihood, 10 other families would be also living in the center.
The P6M resettlement site is envisioned to be a model community and is funded by counter-parting scheme.
The President, through her social fund gave P3M while the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process and the Provincial Government of Bohol each gave P1.5M for the community.

OTHER than Panglao Airport Project, which was endorsed for continued support by the new Administration, majority of Bohol’s next development would be gyrating off to the island’s northeastern towns.
And if the proposed projects get implemented, it would seem that the general region comprised of the cluster of towns from Clarin to Ubay would be the next economic growth center in the island.
At the recent meeting of Bohol’s key development councils including the Provincial Peace and Order, Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, the joint council meeting endorsed the $3M Compact loan for the Ubay Airport Development project by Korean Official Development Assistance with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines as project proponent.
Also endorsed was the P38M Bohol Holistic Enterprise for Livestock based Livelihood Opportunities (Hello) for funding under the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KoICA), an integrated poverty alleviation intervention that would be implemented mostly in the region’s poverty saddled towns.
Head of project implementer, Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz said the project would benefit families in San Isidro, Danao, Dagohoy, San Miguel, Trinidad, Bien Unido, Sagbayan, Clarin, Inabanga, Buenavista, Getafe, Talibon, Ubay and President Garcia.
Part of the endorsed projects which concentrates on the second district of Bohol is the three bridges proposed for the Tulay ng Pangulo which are all located in the Mabini-Ubay road namely Pasanan, Biabas and Ondol bridges, at an aggregate cost of P61M and following the Austrian Assisted Bridges Program.
Moreover, the councils also pushed for the inclusion of the Bohol Dairy Production and Meat processing the in the Korea-Philippine Multi-Industry Cluster Agreement. The center was initially identified to be placed at the Ubay Stock Farm.
Other than those, also resolved was the request for the Philippine Ports Authority to jumpstart soonest the Ubay Port Causeway to its highway access to avoid traffic jams and accidents in its present access.
Meanwhile, the P500M Ubay Port development, a component of the Strong Republic Nautical Highways has just been completed and now effectively connects the town to the neighboring islands by ferry boats.
Govenor Erico Aumenatdo however stressed that the proposed development would spur economic activity and would pluck the people from the harsh poverty situation in the region. (PIA-Bohol)

CRIMINALITY in Bohol dipped 10% during the period May 1-31 despite the usual rise in crimes by the fiesta month owing to the bulk of well-wishers that can camouflage the entry of criminal elements from nearby islands.
For the police force, the month also featured a change in command in Camp Dagohoy from Boholano PSSupt Anthony Obenza to Pssupt. Rodolfo Llorca.
Some politicians sought for Obenza’s transfer due to insinuations of bias. It was Governor Erico Aumentado who is also running for the Second District as Representative who appointed Obenza.
Scoring the victory, police authorities ascribe to the intense operations brought about by the National Firearms Control Program and the successful conduct of comprehensive programs and operations that heightened police visibility in the past month of May.
Camp Dagohoy also ascribe the intensified election ban and heightened operations as contributing factor effecting to the lessening of reported criminal activities.
According to police crime data at Camp Dagohoy, May crime count amounted to 222 cases, some 10% less than the previous month of April, which registered 249 index and non-index crimes, a report during the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting held at the Bohol Tropics revealed.
The merry month registered 175 index crimes, some 20 cases lesser than last month which showed some 195 cases. Non index crimes also went down to 47 from 54 of last month, or some 7 cases left.
Still leading the reported criminal activities is theft at 73, followed by physical injuries at 38 and robbery at 37.
Over the development, police authorities bared that the force is to intensify its intelligence and monitoring activities while concentrating on motorcycle riding criminal elements and robbery groups for the month.
Meanwhile, at the current manpower problems, local police authorities still insist a strong police community relationship may alleviate the problem. (PIA-Bohol)

As some schools opened classes on Monday, the Department of Education (DepEd) has started enforcing a no-smoking rule in all public and private elementary and high schools.
DepEd Order 73, issued by DepEd Secretary Mona Valisno, declared all elementary and high schools “No Smoking” areas.
“Effective immediately, smoking will be prohibited inside school premises. This includes open or covered spaces around school buildings,” Valisno said in the May 28 order, a copy of which was posted late Sunday on the DepEd website.
The order was addressed to undersecretaries and assistant secretaries, bureau, center and service directors, regional directors, schools division and city superintendents, and heads of public and private elementary and high schools.
Valisno ordered school heads to put up “No Smoking” signs in conspicuous places around the school compound. She also ordered them to place signs with the message “You are entering a No-Smoking Area” in entry points such as gates and side entrances.
“Regional and division officials are instructed to oversee the implementation of this order in schools under their supervision,” she said. (PIA-Bohol)
