Lapu Lapu City, Philippines. The Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary- Central Visayas District has called on
government offices, non-government organizations and the general public to honor three important
environmental events this June with massive clean-up of Cebu beaches.
The month of June celebrates three milestones in environmental consciousness: Environment Month,
World Oceans Day and Coral Triangle Day. Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1988 mandates that the
month of June is Environment Month to focus public attention to the protection and conservation of the
country’s natural resources; World Oceans Day is celebrated every June 8 while the Coral Triangle Day
will be celebrated for the first time on June 9, 2012.
Captain Simplicio Gilig, newly installed Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary Central Visayas District Director
said the Coast Guard Auxiliary in the region had been instructed to conduct beach clean ups and if
capable underwater clean-up on Saturday June 9, 2012 and even beyond.
Gilig, who is also a founding officer of the Lapu Lapu City Marine Sports and Boat Operators Association
(MSBOAT) said the Auxiliary and his association will jointly undertake beach and underwater clean-up in
Maribago area in Lapu Lapu City on June 9 because garbage has piled up due in part to the influx of so
many tourists in May, and in part due to irresponsible throwing of garbage by some residents and
visitors.
Gilig said Coastal tourism is the lifeline of the City. It is important that City waters maintain good
swimming quality so tourists will continue to patronize its resorts and beaches. More importantly many
people depend on the sea for livelihood and food and therefore they should always be free from all
kinds of wastes.
This will also be the first time that the Coral Triangle Initiative Day will be celebrated on June 9. The
Philippines is a member of a six-country initiative that hopes to improve the lives of coastal communities
in the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. The
Coral Triangle is the center of the most diverse marine life in the world where the Philippines is at the
apex.
Gilig said all are invited to join and participate the auxiliary group. The assembly time is 7am at the Boyla
Hotel and Resort, Barangay Maribago, Lapu Lapu City. Others expected to join are the Lapu Lapu City

THE Philippines stands to benefit the most from the expected investment boom President Benigno S. Aquino III’s forthcoming official visit to the United Kingdom will generate, an official of the Department of Foreign Affairs said recently.
Philippine Ambassador to the UK Enrique Manalo said the President’s visit from June 4 to 6 will “further cement and invigorate” bilateral ties between the two countries and further boost investor confidence in the country.
He said UK businesses and investors have been looking at the Philippines as an “emerging power in Asia,” noting the country’s resiliency to withstand economic downturns in other countries like the United States but most especially, its positive growth for three consecutive years.
“His (President Aquino’s) coming here (UK) will further cement and, I hope, invigorate the bilateral ties between the Philippines and the UK…and when he comes here, one of the topics of his agenda will be to promote business and commercial relations with the UK for
investments and trade…and we feel that his coming here will also pave the way for more high level companies to invest in the Philippines,” Manalo said.
“As you know, our country has experienced for the past three years positive growth rates despite the economic downturn in the US. This is an area where there are many economic opportunities (and) I think the UK business investors will try to take advantage of that. We should see how we can offer incentives and (more) opportunities for them,” he added.
Among President Aquino’s activities in UK will be a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister David Cameron at 10 Downing Street where the two leaders are expected to discuss Philippine-UK political and economic cooperation, the UK’s participation in the international
contact group (ICG), regional and international issues, and anti-corruption and good governance practices of both governments.
The President will also meet with several British investors, take part in the Philippine fun tourism campaign of the Department of Tourism and meet with the Filipino community in the UK, the largest in Europe.
The Philippines and the UK have a long standing diplomatic relations, with ties starting in 1946. The UK is the country’s top European investors, the 23rd trading partner, the biggest tourism market in Europe and host to the biggest number of Filipinos in Europe. (PCOO)

Katoyuan sa DepEd Order No. 43 nga himuong sistematiko ang pagsuspinder sa klase aron maluwas ang publiko sa kakuyaw nga dala sa bagyo, pagbaha ug uban pang natural disaster.
Ubos sa maong kamanduan, gitambagan ang mga opisyal sa tunghaan, regional ug division school officials, ug mga ginikanan nga i-monitor ang weather bulletin sa Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
