The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday clarified that the government’s proposed 12-year education cycle will be introduced gradually.
The DepEd said the 12-year education cycle or the “Kindergarten + 12” program aims to match basic education cycles in most countries in the world, and to produce skilled and “employable” high school graduates.
In a press briefing, the DepEd unveiled its proposed K-6-4-2 model, which involves kindergarten, 6 years of elementary education, 4 years of junior high school (grades 7 to 10), and 2 years of senior high school (grades 11-12).
It said that the 2 years of senior high school intend to provide time for students to consolidate acquired academic skills and competencies.
The curriculum will allow specialization in science and technology, music and arts, agriculture and fisheries, sports, business, and entrepreneurship, among others.
Those who will go through the 12-year program will program will get an elementary diploma (6 years), a junior high school diploma (4 years) and a senior high school diploma (2 years).
A full 12 years of basic education will eventually be required for entry into tertiary level education (entering freshmen by school year 2018-2019) or 7 years from now.
Education Secretary Armin Luistro clarified that it will take a 4- to 5-year transition period before the program is implemented. (PIA)

Niadtong adlaw sa World Teachers’ Day, Oktubre 5, gi presenta ni Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro ang 12 ka tuig nga “Enhanced Kindergarten-Grade 12 (K+12)” basic education program nga planong ipatuman sa kagamhanan sa school year 2012-2013.
Sa pagpatuman sa maong programa, kinahanglang lihokon sa Department of Education (DepEd) sa Kongreso ang pag-usab sa naandang balaod nga Batas Pambansa 232 o ang “Education Act of 1982,” nga nagsaysay nga 10-year program ang basic formal education.
Sa pag-usab sa maong balaod ug pagpatuman sa 12 ka tuig nga basic education program, kinahanglang mohimo og konsultasyon ang DepEd hangtud sa unang kwarter sa sunod tuig.
Matud pa ni Luistro nga human sa konsultasyon, ang balaod pwedeng ipapasar sa tuig 2013, sa dili pa ang sunod nga eleksyon.
Dugang pa ni Luistro nga ang DepEd mohimo gyud og maisug nga lakang sa pagpa-usbaw sa basic education curriculum. Ang K+12 nga programa mosangkap sa 12 ka tuig nga di-kalidad nga edukasyon nga maghatag katungod sa matag Pilipino.

The Department of Energy (DOE), in its continuing effort to lessen the impact of global warming by implementing a cleaner, more efficient and cost- effective utilization of energy, is undertaking the retrofit program of selected government office buildings replacing all existing T12 and T8 standard fluorescent tubes with the revolutionary Compact Fluorescent Lights or CFLs.
Energy Secretary Jose Rene D. Almendras signed the Memorandum of Agreement with the heads of 34 government agencies, including the Philippine Information Agency, to put this program into effect.
According to Secretary Almendras, although we can build more and generate more energy, we must do our share of addressing consumption.
“This is an intermediate step because the future of lighting is here, you can have the power of a 100 W bulb in a 7W LED that can effectively save 93% of KW hour consumption.,” Secretary Almendras added.
Compared to standard fluorescent tubes and ordinary incandescent light bulbs, CFLs are four times more efficient and lasts up to 10 times longer, and has about the same light output as 100 watt incandescent. CFLS use less energy, making it less expensive and saves more money in the long run.
Unlike the ordinary fluorescent tubes and incandescent light bulbs, CFLS are mercury free, thereby reducing the incidence of air and water pollution when disposed. Replacing a single incandescent bulb with a CFL will keep a half-ton of Carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb.
The contract signing took place on October 5, 2010 at the DOE head office in Taguig City attended by no less than Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman, Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo, Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima and the PIA Director General Atty. Jose A. Fabia. (PIA)

Matud pa ni Education Secretary Armin Luistro nga ang DepEd mopahigayon og mas maayong serbisyo alang sa mga empleyado sa edukasyon aron pag protihir sa ilang mga dawatonon’g benepisyo.
Gisaulog sa mga magtutudlo karong adlawa ang “World Teachers’ Day”.
Ang duha ka ahensya aduna nay memorandum of agreement (MOA) niadtong Disyembre 12, 2005 nga naghimo sa updating sa mga service records (SRs) sa DepEd personnel. Ang GSIS maoy nihatag og pundo sa maong proyekto. Hinuon, ang GSIS nitahu nga aduna lamang 385,258 gawas sa 520,660 nga gipaabot nga SRs ang gi submitir, diin 291,193 ang na properly validated ug na uploaded sa GSIS database.
