CALABARZON Regional MSME Development Council focuses on MSME growth. The Department of Trade and Industry Region 4-A recently hosted a Special Organizational Meeting of the CALABARZON Regional MSME Development Council to help promote, support, and strengthen micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the region. The meeting also discussed the MSME Development Plan 2017-2022 with business environment, business capacity, and business opportunities as its focus areas. The development plan serves as the scheme for the convergence of initiatives adopted and implemented by different stakeholders towards growth and development of Philippine MSMEs. The MSME Development Plan 2017-2022 also takes into consideration global issues and provides cross-cutting strategies such as expanding MSME assistance centers, promoting women and youth entrepreneurship, strengthening the role of the local government units, maximizing opportunities in the digital and internet economy, and promoting green growth. Stronger PH-Russia relations

Stronger PH-Russia relations. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) officials recently met with delegates from Russia to discuss trade and investment cooperation as the Philippines looks to strengthen economic relations, and increasing bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. The meeting also discussed Russia’s pitch for hosting the 2025 World Expo, a global event which aims to educate the public, sharing innovation, promoting progress and fostering cooperation. The 2025 World Expo is organized by a host country that invites other countries, companies, international organizations, private sector, civil society, and public to participate. Three countries are candidates to host World Expo 2025: Japan (in Osaka), the Russian Federation (in Ekaterinburg), and Azerbaijan (in Baku). DTI INKS PARTNERSHIP WITH SHOPINAS, AIR 21. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Shopinas and Air 21 on 5 March 2018 to provide an e-commerce platform for Go Lokal! products. “This is a partnership on innovation, which is a key element in DTI’s thrust to support the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Through this platform, our MSMEs will be able to reach out a larger market beyond the boundaries of the country while maximizing their potential,” said Sec. Lopez. A specially designed Go Lokal! microsite will be available on Shopinas website that will feature MSME products. Items purchased on this platform will be delivered through Air 21. Go Lokal! accredited stores will also be featured on the main website bearing a badge for identification. “This partnership allows us to fulfill our mission to empower local entrepreneurs by bringing their businesses online and pushing Filipino e-commerce to be a dominant force in the world,” said Air 21 Global Inc. President and CEO Lucia Jane Lina. Shopinas and Air 21 are two of the businesses under Air 21 Global Inc. The group specializes in e-commerce, logistics, and customer service. Helping MSMEs maximize e-commerce capabilities. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) teamed up with telecommunications giant PLDT and Go Negosyo to equip more than 100,000 MSMEs with digital solutions and expand opportunities through e-commerce by 2020. Through the partnership, PLDT and Go Negosyo will provide the three Ms strategy of money, mentorship, and market through Negosyo Centers to help MSMEs thrive in becoming globally competitive, and contribute to the economy. DTI TIES-UP WITH GOOGLE AND IPGMB TO DIGITIZE MSMES. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez recently met with Google Philippines Country Manager Kenneth Lingan and IPG Mediabrands (IPGMB) Philippines, Inc. Chief Executive Officer Venus Navalta to discuss a possible cooperation on increasing the digital presence of businesses in the Philippines, especially Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). DTI, Google, and IPMB aim to equip MSMEs with marketing skills and encourage them to bring their businesses online to increase their competitiveness and eventually grow their enterprise. Likewise, Google Philippines and DTI are looking forward to collaborate using the Google My Business platform, which will help businesses be more accessible and searchable online. Google and IPGMB are also eyeing a possible partnership through DTI’s nationwide mentoring programs on educating MSMEs using digital platforms. The group discussed as well possibilities on facilitating 700 Negosyo Centers all over the country as hubs where businesses can verify their addresses on Google Maps and even create their own website.
