LOPEZ TO NEGOSYO MENTORS: DEVELOP SMARTER PINOY ENTREPRENEURS. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez recently (20 June) called on almost a thousand Negosyo Center business counsellors to help DTI and the government develop smarter Filipino entrepreneurs. Speaking at the first Negosyo Fair Business Counsellors’ Conference at SM Megamall, Sec. Lopez highlighted the role of business mentors as front liners of the Negosyo Centers, which he considers an important infrastructure of entrepreneurship. “When you inspire, you transform people and give them the positive entrepreneurial mindset,” he said. To date, there are over 500 Negosyo Centers all over the Philippines ready to provide efficient services to existing and aspiring entrepreneurs, including through provision of free business mentoring and coaching services, trainings and information on market and access to finance. DTI continues to empower Filipino entrepreneurs through these Negosyo Centers, thus infusing the right entrepreneurial mindset in a nation of entrepreneurs. The Negosyo Fair 2017 is open to public until June 24 at SM Megamall.

DTI Official receives Tourism Award from Rotary Club

Manila – Department of Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary Rosvi Gaetos is one of the recipients of the 13th Rotary Tourism Awards in the Tourism and Trade Events Category for her extraordinary contribution in export and tourism promotion and advancement of the tourism industry in the Philippines.  The awarding ceremony was held on June 08, 2017 at the New World Hotel in Makati City.

Assistant Secretary Gaetos heads the Program Management Office of TIPG-DTI which oversees the management and operations of the Go Lokal! Stores Project.

PH-RUSSIA BUSINESS FORUM IN MOSCOW. Philippine (PH) trade officials and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (CCIRF) exchanged views on the ways to strengthen the PH-Russia trade and investment cooperation, in a business forum in Moscow on 25 May, as part of the PH’s official visit to Russia. Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez (4th from L) led the PH delegation with Science & Technology Secretary Fortunato dela Peña (3rd from L), Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion (2nd from L) and other trade officials. Deputy Minister for Economic Development Alexander Tsybulskiy (center) and CCIRF President Sergey Katyrin (2nd from R) led the Russian delegation. CCIRF represents the interests of small, medium-size, and big enterprises in manufacturing, domestic and foreign trade, agriculture, the finance system, and the services sectors in Russia. Sec. Lopez shared with Russians the Dutertenomics framework for inclusive growth, as well as PH’s current growth story characterized by strong macro-economic fundamentals, strong investors’ confidence and good governance. PH delegation showcased various trade and investment opportunities available to Russian businessmen, as well as key industries, wherein PH has comparative advantage. The trade chief sought Russian businessmen’s involvement in the country’s infrastructure and public-private partnership (PPP) projects. He also reiterated relevance of adopting an inclusive growth model, integrating micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the value chain of bigger companies.

DTI PARTNERS WITH NEW ZEALAND TO IMPROVE EASE OF DOING BUSINESS. Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez (center) and New Zealand (NZ) Ambassador to the Philippines (PH) H.E. David Strachan (4th from L) recently (2 May 2017) discussed government-to-government (G2G) cooperation between both sides, touching on the streamlining of government regulatory processes to improve ease of doing business (EODB) in PH. The trade chief is optimistic that the PH-NZ partnership would be a game changer in achieving reforms in the country’s regulatory environment in order to attract more investments and create more jobs for Filipinos. Following this, a two-week ‘G2G Know-How’ scoping mission by experts from NZ was conducted in Quezon City, Cebu City, and Davao City from 2 to 12 May 2017 to identify hurdles in the business registration process and showcase NZ’s expertise in EODB, being one of the top countries in the EODB Report. The EODB agenda is a priority thrust of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), anchored on President Rodrigo Duterte’s socio-economic agenda. Also in the meeting were National Competitiveness Council (NCC) Co-Chairman Guillermo Luz (3rd from L), DTI Assistant Secretary for Competitiveness and Ease of Doing Business Group (CEODBG) Arturo Boncato (2nd from L) and Competitiveness Bureau Assistant Director Mary Lou Gesilva (leftmost).
