Library Hubs established in different schools divisions in the country have helped improve students’ reading proficiency, evaluation results showed. This was the information disclosed by Department of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus.
Library Hubs are also known as ‘warehouse’ or wholesale library which mainly serves public elementary students. The hub provides supplementary reading materials in plastic bins that are sorted by subject area or theme.
The Library Hubs help in solving the inadequacy of supplementary reading materials in public schools.
Along with this was the distribution of Supplementary Reading Materials in all the Hubs which teachers use as reference materials for different subject areas.
The Hubs also improve the knowledge of the teachers on reading strategies using Library Hub books.
Another value-added of the library hub is that teachers are able to learn bar coding and cataloguing by attending seminar-workshops conducted by trainors from the National Library, University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University. (PIA)
