THE Aquino government called on the Filipinos to display the Philippine flag at home, offices, schools, public buildings and plazas, as well as in embassies and consulates overseas beginning May 28 until June 12 in celebration of National Flag Days, a Palace official said on Sunday.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said during an interview aired over government-owned radio station dzRB Radyo ng Bayan on Sunday that the government enjoined the Filipinos to observe the National Flag Days in preparation for Independence Day celebration on June 12.
“Kasi dito sa atin it’s not just a flag day, these are flag days. So from May 28 to June 12 po ang flag days natin. Meron pong project ang Presidential Museum and Library at ang Official Gazette, magkakaroon po tayo ng, as usual, iyong mga infographics po tungkol dito starting on May 28 hanggang June 12, Valte said.
The Philippines will celebrate its Flag Days to commemorate the Battle of Alapan on May 28, 1898 when the Philippine Revolutionary Army led by General Emilio Aguinaldo defeated the Spanish forces. It was also the first time when the Philippine National Flag was hoisted at Teatro Caviteno in Cavite City.
The Filipinos are encouraged to observe the National Flag Days in accordance to Section 26 of Republic Act 8491 otherwise known as “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines,” which orders all offices and public venues to display replicas of the Philippine flag. (PND)
