Manny Pacquiao, now an adopted son of Boholanos

This after the Bohol Provincial Development Council (PDC), Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), and the Bohol chapters of the League of Municipalities (LMP), Vice Mayors (VMLP) and Barangays (LnB) passed a joint resolution declaring Manny Pacquiao an adopted son of the province.

Pacquiao, together with his family, were in Bohol for a vacation. Though it was cut short when Pacquiao left en route to New York to receive the 2008 ‘Fighter of the Year’ award from the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA).

If his hectic schedule will still allow it, a source close to Pacquiao said he may be back on Tuesday for one week more of vacation to experience Bohol’s powdery fine white sand beaches and other sites. He will be presented with the joint resolution then.

Forbes Magazine has placed Pacquiao in the 6th position among the world’s 10 highest paid athletes and berthed him also among the 100 Most Powerful Celebrities in the World for his spectator-drawing capacity and his legendary influence on the people of the world, especially the Philippines where during all his fights, complete peace and order reigned in the land even in areas infested by rebels and Abu Sayyaf members because all eyes are glued to his fights via TV and the other high-tech media used for the purpose.

Time Magazine also lists him among the most influential people of the world.
