NEDA okays LTFRB’S fare hike petition for jeepneys, taxis and buses

The NEDA board has approved the fare hike petition of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in behalf of the country’s public utility vehicles (PUVs).

The NEDA’s approval of the LTFRB fare hike initiative — which will be carried out by this weekend – was announced by NEDA Director-General Augusto Santos.

“In principle, this has been approved by the NEDA Board,” said Santos.

For his part, LTFRB head Thompson Lantion revealed the new fare hike rates for jeepneys will have a minimum fare of P8.50 for the first four kilometers, plus P1.50 for each succeeding kilometer.

As for taxicabs, passengers will have to add P10 to the amount registered by the taxi meter.

For ordinary buses, the minimum fare is now P10 for the first five kilometers; plus P1.95 each for the succeeding kilometers. Aircon bus fares, on the other hand, are normally 20 percent higher than ordinary bus fare rates, said Lantion.

The jeepney and taxi fare hikes are “across-the-board” nationwide, while the rate increase for buses is for Metro Manila. (PIA/Bohol)
