China’s petrochemical company to expand in PH
MAKATI – The Philippines (PH) continues to receive business intentions and expansion projects from large companies based in China (CN). In a recent meeting between Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez and Handi Group President Hanling Wu, they discussed possibility of investments of the company in a petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing facility in the country. “We welcome business intentions to strengthen our petrochemical industry, which the government actively supports. They expressed strong confidence on the business environment stability during the Duterte administration,” said Sec. Lopez. Handi Group is one of the largest and advanced private specialty oil producers in China. The conglomerate is based in Hainan Province and engages in multiple industries, including oil refinery, chemical industry, trading, investment, and financing. The group, through its subsidiaries Hainan Handi Sunshine Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (HDS), Hainan Handi Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (HDP), Handi Lubricant Technology (China) Co., Ltd., Handi Sunshine Trading Co., Ltd., and Handi Investment, has established a full scale and long-term strategic cooperation with large international energy companies such as ExxonMobil, Total, Chevron, and BASF. Sec. Lopez opened the discussion of putting up a facility in Mindanao, which will be suitable for the company’s power, land, and accessibility requirements. DTI distributes livelihood packages, extends 0%-interest microfinance loans to Marawi IDPs
ILIGAN – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) awarded 1,500 livelihood packages as well as 0%-interest microfinance loans to the internally displaced people (IDP) of the Marawi siege during the DTI Negosyo Seminar Para sa Marawi on 30 January 2018. “We want to assure the IDPs that President Duterte’s administration continues to provide more business and livelihood opportunities through the DTI Negosyo Seminars being given to help them recover soon,” said DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez. There were 1,500 participants and beneficiaries who attended the Negosyo Seminar. One of them was Mr. Alikman Nata, who intends to share the benefits of the livelihood package to his group, the Lanao Muslim Youth Association. As the head of Bangon Marawi’s Subcommittee in Business and Livelihood, DTI had earlier distributed 588 livelihood packages and conducted Negosyo trainings to 1,963 IDPs as of December 2017. There were also 240 beneficiaries who were linked to financial institutions. The Department also allocated Php 50 million this year to fund the Shared Service Facilities (SSF), providing Maranao entrepreneurs with facilities and knowledge that match their business needs. This is apart from the budget provision to support other Bangon Marawi programs in providing mobile rice mills, tricycles, vehicles, and the construction of public markets. World Renowned Tenor Sal Malaki performs at Bohol Cultural Center
WORLD-RENOWNED operatic tenor and philanthropist, Sal Malaki performs on July 3, 2014 at the Bohol Cultural Center with the special participation of the Bohol Master Singers, a choral ensemble- which will have its first year anniversary of its formation this July- which is composed of both professional(music degree holder) and amateur(non-music degee holder but musically capable) musicians in Bohol, initially gathered and formed by Ma’am Enriquieta Butalid and is currently under the direction of its conductor, Joshibiah de Juan, a Master degree-holder in choral conducting from UP Diliman and Korean National University of Arts, who is also the executive director and owner of the De Juan School of Music and the Arts Recreational Training; and will be accompanied by Mrs. Agape Labuntog, a native of Cagayan de Oro and a graduate from College of Performing Arts, Siliman University, major in Piano. An innovative noting application that helps users share fun memories and experiences won the first place in the first ever Bohol Startup Weekend held in the University of Bohol in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. The Flipnotes app, which bested eight other apps last weekend, allows users to create notes that have pictures in front with the text behind it and which can be flipped using a flip function. The Bohol Startup Weekend last May 23 to 25 is a local leg of the Startup Weekend, a global movement of active technopreneurs learning the basics of founding startups and launching successful ventures. “It’s basically a 54-hour gathering of tech developers, designers, marketers, and startup enthusiasts for the purpose of sharing innovative ideas, crafting new products, and launching startups,” said event organizer Benjamin Skelton. The Bohol Startup Weekend was organized by TechTalks.ph, Department of Science and Technology-Information and Communication Technology Office, Bohol Information and Communication Technology Council, and the Bohol Provincial Government. Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, April 08, 2014 (PIA)–Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio “Sonny” Coloma Jr. will keynote the simple kickoff rites of the Bayani Challenge 2014 tomorrow, April 9. In commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan tomorrow, Bohol will rise up to the call of heroism through volunteerism with the Bohol Bayani Challenge launch. Gov. Edgar Chatto will lead the provincial, city and national government officials and staff, NGOs and civil society on the launching ceremonies at 4:00 p.m. at the CPG Sports Complex in Tagbilaran City. This will be after the Bohol Bayani Challenge Walk wherein the different sectors will be mobilized at the grandstand from three starting points: in Plaza Rizal, F. Rocha Street and at the Tagbilaran City Pier, where they will have assembled at 3:00 p.m. With the theme “Walang Iwanan,” this year’s Bayani Challenge will be gathering one million volunteers across 12 provinces — Aklan, Antique, Bohol, Capiz, Cebu, Eastern Samar, Iloilo, Leyte, Negros Occidental, Palawan, Samar, and Zamboanga — to rebuild homes and schools, plant trees, conduct clean-up drives and health missions, and invest time with kids for nine full weeks beginning April 12 and will culminate on June 12, Araw ng Kalayaan.
