Aris to expand tourism prospects in 2nd District
By JUNE S. BLANCO REP. Erico Aristotle Aumentado will meet with national tourism officials in Manila this week to map out plans, explore prospects, and develop new attractions for the 2nd district. Aumentado says he wants synergetic tourism development so that each town can “sell” the destinations of the other towns – instead of competing with each other for tourists to visit their more or less the same, or similar – attractions. He also said he will pitch sales for the development of a promontory in Cambugsay that is overlooking the dam, and the paddling on the river for talaba (oysters) downstream in Cambuhat, Buenavista. He will also arrange with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) for water-borne adventure tourism in the dam. Just like in Cambuhat, the food will be cooked and prepared by a people’s organization to augment their respective family incomes. When realized, the people will then experience dragon boat rides, and feast on fresh, savory and organically grown vegetables and fish dishes harvested from farms. The only “developed” tourism attraction in the district so far, he said, is the Danao Adventure Park and Playground. Poverty incidence in Bohol continue to slide down in the last three years, from 31.3% in 2015 to 26% in 2018, recent data from the local Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) show. By poverty incidence, the PSA means the minimum income and expenditure required for a family of five members to meet the basic food and non-food requirements every day. Of the above figures, 2 for every 10 families did not meet their basic food and non-food needs, at least in the first semester or 2018, as to the PSA-released new data they gleaned from their most recent surveys in Bohol. Is that bad enough? Yes and no. Roughly, that means 26 of every 100 Boholano families can not afford to meet their basic food and non-food needs. One good thing though, in 2015, the figure used to be 31 of every 100 Boholanos not affording to meet their basic food and non-food needs. In its poverty statistics data for the first semester of 2018 that they produced, the PSA came out with the poverty threshold, poverty incidence, food threshold and subsistence incidence for Bohol. The PSA said a family of five in Bohol would need P 12,613.00 per month to meet their basic needs in food and non-food requirements. Beyond that, the family would belong to the figures in the poverty incidence, where the proportion of families with per capita income and expenditure is less than the per capita poverty threshold to the total number of families. Bohol bikers celebrate cycling bond in Unity Ride May 25-26
It is the merry month of May again. And while the fiestas all over Bohol allow the people to shovel into themselves huge cholesterol overloads, local bikers look up to the annual two-day ride that brings them to pedal around the island’s belting road, bond, have good clean fun and detox. The annual Unity Ride, also known as Bohol 360 this May 25-26 this year is sponsored by TriBohol, the local elite triathlon group, who since the start, wanted to nurture amateur bikers and pedal with them through the 264 kilometer course. The Unity Ride is a long ride and surviving it is enough of a feat. As to surviving the pain, a perfect fit with the bike helps a lot. So what is perfect fit? It is your fit and the bike’s adjustments to attain your stance as against the bike geometry. Considering your height, that means your stand-over-clearance (standing between the frame leaves your groin at least an inch from the frame) and your reach (which is often measured by the tip of your elbows touching the front of the saddle, knuckles reaching the tip of the steering tube). By attaining a good if not a perfect bike fit, it allows one the most comfortable painless ride especially over long distances. DENR Sec. Roy Cimatu would want Panglao, Bohol to keep treasuring its beaches and not follow world-famous resort island Boracay’s ways to serious environmental indecency. The secretary grieved over what he calls “overdevelopment” on Boracay island “without thinking of the (negative) consequences.” Numerous resorts and other tourist establishments on Panglao island have also been issued notices of violations (NOVs) of environmental and sanitation laws, regulations and policies. But Cimatu cited the serious effort of the Boholano stakeholders in coordination with the appropriate agencies like the DENR in correcting the mistakes. The DENR secretary attended the Panglao-Dauis and Tagbilaran Executive Council (PADTEC) Board Meeting led by Gov. Edgar Chatto at the Bohol Tropics yesterday. By JUNE S. BLANCO THE Congress Bicameral Conference Committee has approved the Balik Scientist Act – the measure designed to attract Filipino scientists now working abroad to return home. Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) who chairs the House Committee on Science and Technology says the move aims to invite home scientists, engineers and innovators either for short term stays to lead researches and experiments, or to come home for good for the same purpose. Aumentado expressed gratitude to Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino, his counterpart in the Senate, for pushing the same legislation “to bring back Filipino scientists, engineers, and technology entrepreneurs to work in various fields, including heath, food and agriculture, information and communications technology (ICT), and even alternative energy.” The act institutionalizes the program first established in 1975. Aumentado said his move came after observing that the program “has been a tremendous success in accelerating the flow of strategically important strategies that are vital to national development and progress. Erico Aristotle “Aris” Aumentado will discuss with the mayors of the towns in Bohol’s 2nd district their respective development plans to ensure that these jive with the District Economic Master Plan (DEMP). Aumentado said he will meet the mayors shortly to ensure that their plans dovetail with the DEMP, the details of which are now being finalized by a team from the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). The draft DEMP identifies infrastructure, tourism potentials, economic zones and telecommunications as priority key areas. The solon said only when these are established will a place be attractive to potential investors. More often than not, he said, investors pour money only into businesses that they are currently involved in. When they find a locale’s business climate to be suitable, they tend to expand. When they feel the business environment to be friendly, they may venture into new but related businesses. Putting up infrastructure like seaports, airports, roads and bridges, telecommunications will definitely make a place inviting to locators. He said these will facilitate the transport going in and out of the locality of goods for raw materials and finished products for marketing. The solon added that he has enlisted the help of concerned agencies in upgrading the airport, seaports and other facilities in Ubay – the perceived district “center”.
