DepEd Tagbilaran City Division held its first state of the division address earlier today at the Bohol Tropics Resort.
Dr. Neri Ojastro, the OIC schools division superintendent stated the achievements and future plans of the division. He added that DepEd’s goal is to bring students to school, to make them learn, and to provide quality education. He also stated that the real challenge is to keep the students in school. Dr. Ojastro proudly shared that all schools have been provided with cctv cameras, while all public elementary schools will be provided with air conditioning units. He also said that the division aims to modernize education management and governance, enhance the electronic database like records, recruitment, rewards and recognition process. He added that the division intends to achieve 100% complaint to COA rules and to release teachers benefits on time. Lastly, he said that DepEd continues to improve itself for the better. Provincial Administrator Alfonso Damalerio and “Tatay” Billy Tongco attended the event on behalf of Gov. Edgar Chatto. Dr. Ojastro expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government of Bohol led by Gov. Chatto for the unceasing support to all of DepEd’s projects and undertakings. Provincial Administrator Damalerio in his message stressed that the provincial government is likewise thankful to DepEd. Education has been one of the pillars in Governor Chatto’s HEAT IT Development Agenda. Of the three Bohol rivers which the communities have jointly cleaned up in efforts to improve its water quality, the singular honor to represent Bohol as nominee to the regional and the national awards for the best improved rivers goes to Garcia Hernandez’s Manaba River. A Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) team picked Manaba River after the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Tagbilaran and the local community succeeded in upgrading the river’s water quality; a goal for the awards. DENR Bohol Environment Management Bureau Provincial Environment Management Unit’s Richard Abella shared this during the recent Kapihan sa PIA, which was timed for the opening of the Month for the Environment in June. Manaba is among the three rivers which the local DENR picked for community based clean-ups and rehabilitation for them to qualify in the 2019 awards. Along with Manaba River, is Loboc River where the famous Rivercruises and floating restaurants are plying, and Abatan River where its mouth empties in Cortes, which is also used for the Abatan Community Life River Experiences. Early this year, President Rodrigo Duterte with the people of Manila, embarked on a rather ambitious cleaning-up and rehabilitation of the Manila Bay, which it successfully started with a massive clean-up. Arup presents pre-FS on Bohol-Leyte Link Bridge

BLANCO DESIGN giant Arup, with 34 offices worldwide including in Manila, presented April 2 to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bohol 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) in Ubay town its pre-feasibility study (FS) for the Bohol-Leyte Link Bridge (BLLB). Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado who attended the presentation said once constructed, the “ambitious” bridge from Ubay via President Carlos P. Garcia to Maasin City in Southern Leyte will connect Bohol to the rest of the country by land. Aumentado said the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded the pre-FS, and a full-blown study will follow. “The bridge is part of the dream of my father, [former] Gov. Erico Boyles Aumentado, to put Bohol among the fast developing provinces in the country today”, the solon said. The father is his immediate predecessor in the House of Representatives. After the funding for pre-FS for the BLLB, Aumentado said up next will be the funding for the FS for Bohol-Cebu Friendship Bridge. He expressed gratitude to President Rodrigo Duterte for pushing these major projects for this province. The BLLB is part of the Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility (IPIF) for roads and bridges of DPWH. TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, September 1 (PIA)—Three cross country mountain bikers in the 30-39 age category raced to a spectacular finish to get the edge seconds from each other in the notoriously tough to race two-abreast single trails of Mahayahay in Carmen, August 26. Consummate athleticism played to the smallest cogs on the uphill assault to the finish line was how spectators described the three bikers who were so glued to each other’s rear wheels that midway into the race, the spacing distance among the three mountain bikers never reached beyond five meters. Bike Joey Magsayo (racing number 41) crossed the finish line at 11:25:04 seconds, barely two seconds before his pursuer Anthony Rabida (#46) who crossed the finish line, rear cogs midway as he kept the pumping pace to finish second at 11:25:06, while making sure the rider in pursuit does not use the cleared trail to sprint into his determined finish. Two second later, and gears slamming to the maximum spinning race to the finish was Jobier Visto on bid number 49, on very close third. Three minutes later came in Ricky Durano (#42) at 11:28 and John Phillip Burra, 5th at 11:32. Magsayo finished the entire course in 1:25:04. BFAR keeps fish supply mandate, Inaugurates 11th CFLC in Ubay
UBAY, Bohol, January 9 (PIA)—While legislators are busily tackling ways to bring down the price of fish in Bohol, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) kept to their mandate and inaugurates Bohol’s 11th fish hub, January 9 in Ubay town. The fish hub is a facility where fishermen can land their daily catch to be assured of a market, or at least refrigerate them so it does not go to waste and can be sold the following day. BFAR call these facilities Community Fish Landing Center (CFLC), and placed in them post-harvest facilities as well as spaces for trade, administration and at least a decent space for meetings and training. Earlier, fishermen have admitted that bringing their catch to the mainland is risky as there might not be a market for their fish and without refrigeration at home, their catch might stale and go to waste. On this, the BFAR intends to respond to that issue while noting that fisher-folk, including the entire fish trade value chain are registered and organized. The CFLC acts as their common venue to train, to organize and plan as well as to mend their nets, sell their catch and store them in shared facilities to maximize on the harvest, BFAR Regional Director Dr. Allan L. Poquita said. The Ubay CFLC is the 11th of the 14 multi-million facilities which Bohol got from the national government since 2016 to 2017. TAGBILARAN CITY January 6, 2018 (PIA)—The move to make Bohol the country’s dairy capital nears, hooves at a time. This as the Department of Agriculture (DA) through secretary Emmanuel Pinol is set to bring to Bohol the first batch of girolando cattles which the country imports from Brazil. The batch, according to separate sources at the DA said as much as 2,000 heads are expected to arrive in Bohol this year. Governor Edgar Chatto, in his message to Boholanos gathered during the opening of Bohol’s third Dairy Box, a mall stall selling buffalo milk, bared the development even as Sec. Pinol has wanted to know how Boholanos would take the plan to transform the province into udder for the country’s dairy requirements and cut on imported dairy dependence. . Gov Chatto said the government through the DA plans to import about 5,000 heads of Girolando dairy cattle from Brazil to attain the goal. He added that the government is now awaiting the completion of the quarantine of these cattle to make sure that these imported breeds carry no diseases that can affect the native breeds in the province. Bohol, which has been declared free from foot and mouth disease affecting cloven livestock is also particularly cautious about the entry of the disease that can be carried by imported breeds. Bohol has over 3,000 hectares of lands at the Ubay Stock Farm which could be ideal for the target of increasing the local supply to respond to the national requirement. Bohol’s Open Governance model took center stage in this year’s ASIA PACIFIC LEADERS FORUM ON OPEN GOVERNMENT in Jakarta, Indonesia last December 14. The host country thru Indonesia’s Ministry of Planning invited Bohol Governor Edgar M. Chatto to speak on Sub National Open Governance and its impact to development taking the experience of Bohol province. Gov. Chatto’s name was among the list of nominated speakers evaluated by the organizing committee in Jakarta. His innovations in Open Government both in executive and legislative branches and the strong indorsement of the Philippine Government earned for him the slot to speak in the Forum attended by over 500 delegates from Asia Pacific countries. Also invited to speak in the Forum were DBM Secretary Ben Diokno, who spoke on Participatory Budgeting and COA Chairman Michael Aguinaldo who shared the Philippine experience in Transparency policies. The Philippine delegation was received warmly in Indonesia by Philippine Ambassador Maria Lumen B. Isleta and top officials of Liwayway Group of Companies owned by Amb. TAGBILARAN CITY, December 8 (PIA)–Bohol Police Provincial Office reports a 52% dip in violence against women and children (VAWC) from January to November in 2017. The downtrend is already considered huge accomplishment and records would also show that in 2016, VAWC cases reached 165 cases, according to a report read by Police Senior Inspector Nida Perocho. Perocho, who came to the Kapihan sa PIA bringing a summative report on the vawc cases in Bohol also clarified that the cases in their records at Camp Dagohoy reflect only those getting into town blotters that prospered into legal suits. As to the development, authorities continue to urge women and girls who might be victims of physical, sexual, emotional and psychological or economic abuse to come out where help is available. It would only be when they come out from hiding that they can be helped, emphasizes Inspector Perocho. And coming out may mean getting these cases known by legal suits. One thing good about reporting these cases of abuse is that the perpetrators would have something to think about before committing another atrocity as he can really get to jail, added social worker Desiree Faith Lingo, at the radio forum. By reporting and filing suits however, many women and girls fear they have nowhere to go.
