Google now uses mobile capability as a search rank criteria

Late in April 2015, Google announced that it will start using the mobile device capability of websites as a criteria for search ranking.  In the announcement, Google said that “Now searchers can more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.” In the increasingly mobile market, Google included the “mobile friendliness” of a website as a criteria for mobile search results.  This is an obvious evolution of Google’s search engine algorithm as mobile devices continue to dominate the Internet over desktop computers. This is an important announcement for website owners because website viewers are increasingly using their mobile devices to look up information on the Internet.  With Google’s algorithm change, the loss of website traffic could be significant especially if many of the viewers for a particular website prefer to use mobile devices.  Website owners should seriously consider updating website designs using mobile friendly templates. Aside from a design that fits on a mobile device, the design should also adapt to the screen size of the mobile device.  On top of that, the use of unnecessary content should be avoided because mobile users expect websites to load quickly and not consume their mobile data allocations.  This means websites should void having heavy graphics, video or audio files that play automatically and excessively long text content. Fortunately for website owners, converting to a mobile friendly design is straightforward if they work with an experienced website management company.  There are many mobile friendly templates that are very customizable yet highly adaptive...

Catigbian hands cash awards For 2010 performing athletes

CATIGBIAN Bohol. SPORTS and youth development has gone professional in this town, which has earlier vowed a no-nonsense program after a humiliating sports performance few years back. How can we produce the best athletes if we only give them a week of rigid athletic training, Mayor Roberto Salinas blurted out upon seeing the futility of a haphazard training regimen for their athletes competing in sports competitions. On this, the retired navy captain mayor egged his council to back up a sports training program that would generate the best athletes who shall bring the town’s name in sports competitions. Recently, aside from bringing home the bacon in sports competitions they participated in, local athletes also received cash incentives from the local government Winning athletes who represented the town in this year’s different levels of sports competitions earned cash awards during the monthly convocation held December 20. According to Maria Nila Tapales, town information officer, the awarding came after Mayor Roberto Salinas convinced the local legislators to put up a sports incentive fund through an ordinance. After that, Catigbian with another supplemental ordinance of P14,000 to account for the better medal harvest for the year, Tapales continued. The P54,00 appropriations this year is different from the appropriations as honoraria for coaches, trainors and training instructors, appropriation for sports equipment acquisition and financial support to the competing delegation, she added. CHR: “rights cases” halved in a decade

THE Commission on Human Rights in Bohol now records a significant decrease in human rights cases compared to about a decade ago. In fact, had not the commission expanded its services to include a legal advice and inter-agency referral system that was not institutionalized in its past functions, the cases this year may have been much lower, admits Bohol CHR Rito Montes. Montes showed statistics as he bared these developments during the recent Kapihan sa PIA aired live over DyTR. Set up to commemorate the national Human Rights Week Celebration and adopting the theme Karapatang Pantao: Kilalanin, Tuparin at Pagyamanin, the forum on air with the CHR was aimed to update Boholanos of the human rights situation in Bohol. In 1999, CHR Bohol noted 57 cases of human rights violations. This was even lower compared to 2002 when at the height of Bohol’s struggles facing insurgency and holding it by the horns where some 88 cases were recorded. In 2008 and 2009 however, the CHR said it noted only 24 cases on both years. It added that their 30 cases form January to November of this year, may be understood because of the newly opened legal assistance and inter-agency referral system that was recently institutionalized and incorporated in the CHR mandate, Montes explained. In its comparative data provided, CHR bared that that in 2010, while recorded cases of violations went to 30, 7 of these are actually legal advice and assistance cases, a new service by the CHR. Bohol CHR officially submitted only 24 cases for docketing at the regional office this year, Montes bared. Even then, CHR regional...
