New 47th IB commander vows sustained partnership for peace

CAMP LINO CHATTO, Cabulijan, Tubigon, Bohol, May 28 (PIA)—After rendering a stellar performance as commanding officer of the 47th Infantry “Katapatan” Battalion (47IB) for two years and 18 days, Lieutenant Colonel Eufracio Malig Jr., steps off and hands the command flag to Lieutenant Colonel Ramir Redosendo, in a simple but fitting turn-over of command rites officiated by no less than 3rd Infantry Division Presiding General Officer and 37th commander, General Dinoh Dolina at the Camp Lino Chatto in Cabulijan Tubigon, May 28. In his acceptance message, LTC Redosendo, who handles matters of military operations at the general headquarters, rallies the men and women of the Battalion to help him bring the 47th IB to remain committed in performing its mandate. “Let us continue our partnership in supporting the people in the pursuit of a lasting peace and development in our community,” the newly installed officer appealed during the rites attended by officers and men of the 3ID, 47IB and the 302nd BDE as well as local officials led by Governor Edgar Chatto, board members, municipal mayors and civil society representatives. On the other hand, LtCol Malig, who distinguished his two-year meritorious service to Boholanos by fighting a different kind of battle, one that allowed his unit to forge partnerships with the local government and the civil society, is reporting to the Central Command in Camp Jamindan in Capiz for another challenging mission. While assuring local officials and sector representatives of this intent to continue the partnerships, he still called his men under his new command to do the best they can. “Let us all remember that we are all... read more

Bohol registers lowest load reduction for Earth Hour ‘19

Over a hundred bikers on blinkers took to the City and Dauis streets to campaign for the commemoration and advancement of the global Earth Hour event. But as organizers expected to see a load reduction for entire Bohol between 8:30 to way past 10:00 PM go down, with hundreds opting to turn off their appliances and gadgets for the three hour bike ride, the reduction noted in Bohol was too minimal compared to its island neighbors sharing the Visayas Grid. The data however is unofficial, in a sense that it did not come from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) which monitors the grids for power consumption monitoring. But, Department of Energy’s Energy Industry Management Division chief Jorey Maleza, who has been tracking the raw data from the NGCP, in a phone conversation said that the load reduction in the Visayas, reached a sizable 31.43 megawatts (MW). This, he added, did not immediately register at 8:30, when Earth Hour organizers called for people to switch off their lights and appliances for an hour at least. The load reduction came in a few minutes later, a fact that he said could be the difference in time synchronization among consumers. In his monitoring, he said the load reduction all over Visayas was recorded at 8:35 and onwards, which he said could be because after switching off at 8:30, and on a weekend, most people possibly went on to sleep without waiting for the one hour to lapse. In his post in his social media account, Engr. Maleza said the total load reduction in the Visayas Grid is broken down... read more

Aris pushes energ’n of 2nd District islands

By JUNE S. BLANCO JANUARY 7, 2017 will forever be etched in the minds of the over 700 households in the three-barangay island of Mahanay off Getafe and Talibon towns. This was when Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) powered on the ceremonial switch for the P30-million energization project for the island. Engr. Eugene Tan, manager of the Bohol II Electric Cooperative Inc. (Boheco II) assisted him. Not resting on his laurels, Aumentado recently sought updates from former Camarines Sur congressman and now Energy Undersecretary for Power, Renewable Energy, and Media Affairs Felix William “Wimpy” Fuentebella. An island will remain under-developed without the necessary basic infrastructure support. To note, in his switch-on message, Aumentado waxed sentimental as he declared the fulfillment of the promise his namesake father and immediate congressional predecessor, former Gov. Erico Boyles Aumentado, had made to the islanders. Patterned after the Leyte-Bohol Interconnection project, Mahanay taps power from mainland Bohol through submarine cables. The National Electrification Administration (NEA) through then Administrator Edita Bueno downloaded the amount to Boheco II that undertook the bidding process for the cable and installed it, along with the electric poles, power main and lateral lines. Boheco II manages the power distribution to the households as well. The elder Aumentado had broached the energization plan for the 2nd District’s 35 islands and islets to Bueno. With the technology already available, it did not take him long to convince her. However, death overtook him on Christmas Day of 2012. Aumentado, the son, picked up the pieces where his father left off. In 2015, during his own first term as congressman, he brought...

ARIS Health gives islanders sea ferry, hospital services

By JUNE S. BLANCO IF MOHAMMED won’t come to the mountain, the mountain must come to Mohammed. Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado of Bohol’s 2nd District made this resolve when, on his island sorties on inspection trips on the progress of implementation of his infrastructure projects built with counter-parting funds, he noticed several children and pregnant women needing medical attention. This led to the launching on Friday, Sept. 8, of the A.R.I.S. Health or the Active and Responsive Initiative for Sustainable Health. The parents and elders told Aumentado that while they needed treatment, they could not afford the trip to the mainland to seek medical help. This prompted Aumentado to mobilize the sea ambulance procured for the District by his namesake father and immediate congressional predecessor former Governor and Congressman Erico Boyles Aumentado. After ascertaining that the vessel was seaworthy, the solon organized a trip for around 100 mostly children and their mothers from Malingin Island of Bien Unido town to the Don Emilio del Valle Memorial Hospital (DEDVMH) in Ubay town. Aumentado said bringing a team of doctors, medicines and equipment to the island would be personnel and labor intensive. This would also require off-duty staff to render overtime services because on duty staff need to man the hospital at all times. The solon expressed apprehension that the staff who just came off duty and required to render services for the mission will be exhausted when it will be time for their hospital duty again. He said tired staff are prone to human errors that might endanger the lives of hospital patients. The Malingin islanders rode the sea ambulance...

With elements from the local Inabanga Police Station, PSSupt. Felipe Natividad led PSupt. Lorenzo Batuan, PSupt Rene Kyamko, PSInspector Cesar...

BFAR partners with PACPI for Ubay lambay hatchery

SINANDIGAN UBAY, August 30, 2017 (PIA) –Aiming to sustainably replenish the stocks of swimming blue crabs (lambay) in Bohol, the government and a private sector group signed an agreement to formally establish a hatchery for the crustaceans popularly imported for their meat here at the local Multi Species Hatchery. The government through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional Director Dr. Allan L. Poquita and Robert G. Eduardo chairman of the Philippine Association of Crab Processors Inc. ( PACPI) formally signed the agreement to mutually cooperate in the production of blue swimming crab August 30, here at the Multi species hatchery right in the middle of Danajon Double Barrier Reef. Dr. Poquita said the historic event marks the rebirth of the blue crab meat industry through sustaining stocks in the region severely depleted by over harvesting in the past. He said the project is consistent with BFAR mandate to promote the replenishment and propagation of crabs and achieve food security. Here, the project intends to acquire suitable berried female crabs from fishers, but them at premium prices and bring them to the hatchery for spawning, according to Chairman Eduardo. The ultimate goal is to be able to produce at least 20,000 to 30,000 hatchlings every month which would be dispersed to BFAR identified areas along the beneficiary towns and islands along the Danajon Bank, Dir Poquita added. One of the projects goal is to enhance the Spawning Potential Ratio for blue crabs to a sustainable levels of at least 30%, according to PACPI Executive Director Josette Emlen Genio. This means that of a female crabs average of...

Aris: Lick poverty with livelihood

By JUNE S. BLANCO REP. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) takes seriously the “teaching a man to fish” part of the saying rather than the “giving a man a fish” part. He says “teaching” gives a man independence through skills he learns from training – and empowers him to provide for his family. On the other hand, “giving” merely turns such a man into a mendicant, and in the process, robs him of dignity. His efforts at teaching skills have earned Aumentado the National Kabalikat Award from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). TESDA recently celebrated its 23rd anniversary during which it conferred awards to partners in attaining its goals. Aumentado had tapped the rich pool of TESDA trainors in different fields to train his constituents, hence the award given at the TESDA Auditorium, at the TESDA Complex, in Taguig City, Metro Manila. The solon said TESDA cited him as legislative partner in promoting manpower and skills development for his constituents, especially those who cannot afford to pay for higher education. Through these years, Aumentado’s office has been, and continuously is being a partner in the development of the Boholano workforce. TESDA Central Office statistics show that Aumentado’s office – always ready to be of service to the public – had benefitted 8,168 Boholanos who availed of the trainings and scholarship programs from 2014-2016. He has 5,173 assessed and 5,597 graduates employed. His office also invested P 25,473,141.41 for Technical-Vocational Education and Training (TVET). TVET is the education or training process that, in addition to general education, involves the study of technologies and related sciences and...

Aris highpoints Bohol Polls ‘17

By JUNE S. BLANCO   WHAT is it in election years that pulls down net satisfaction ratings (NSRs) of candidates? This was what happened to three of Bohol’s incumbent top leaders in 2016 – except for Rep. Erico Aristotle Aumentado (Bohol, 2nd District) whose NSR increased by six percentage points. The three top leaders managed to recover in 2017. Gov. Edgardo Chatto and Rep. Rene Ralampagos (Bohol, 1st District) moved up by four percentage points each – from +81 to +85 for the former and from +50 to +54 for the latter. Rep. Arthur Yap (3rd District) fared better: +74 this year from +63 in 2016 or up by 11 percentage points. But Aumentado topped his six-point increase of +63 in 2015 to +69 in 2016 with a 15-point jump to +84 this year. While Chatto’s, Relampagos’ and Yap’s yearly ratings from 2014 to 2017 would look like the pulses of the heart in an electrocardiogram. Aumentados’s ratings steadily climbed, with no dips at all. Aumentado thanks his supporters for the trust and confidence in him. While he rode on the good name, accomplishments and popularity of his father and relished the sympathy votes when he first entered politics as replacement candidate and won in 2013, he said the 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 Bohol Poll results already reflect what his constituents feel about how he has gone about his work. To note, his namesake father, immediate congressional predecessor and former Gov. Erico Boyles Aumentado, passed away on Christmas Day of 2012 – at the height of the campaign. The solon said the 2017 results inspire him to strive even...
