PPOC wants BFAR explain sanga ban
TAGBILARAN CITY, March 7 (PIA)–Clearly at a loss of explanations on the ongoing ban on hunting rare, threatened and species in danger of extinction, Bohol Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) requests the country’s lead agency implementing the ban for enlightenment. Governor Edgar Chatto, PPOC Chairman and himself a witness to the rampant roadside and market sales of dried “sanga” meat in Jagna town, intends for the council to also be fully appraised of the nuances among banned sanga (giant manta ray), ordinary manta ray species like smoothtail mobulas (pantihan), spinetail mobula (binsowan), the giant pacific devil rays, sting rays and still the smaller species that are cooked and sold as exotic food. A Pamilacan resident and a PPOC member Engr. Camilo Gasatan also admit that because sanga commands a high price, even the smaller non-banned species are called sanga when dried to fetch a high price. Those who do not actually know may eat other smaller manta ray meat, sold as sanga, he said. In fact, many Boholanos still keep an open craving for nilabog sanga, banggis, ang sinugbang buwad sanga despite a ban on hunting, taking, catching, gathering, selling, purchasing, possessing, transporting, exporting, forwarding or shipping out aquatic species listed in the appendices of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). Pagdaraos ng ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting, kasado na MAKATI—Determinado at handang isulong ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) angtrade agenda ng Pilipinas sa gaganaping ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (AEM) Retreat and Related Meetings sa 8-9 Marso 2017. Ito ang paunang pagpupulong ng mga trade minister o mga kalihim ng komersyo ng 10 ASEAN Member States (AMS) bago ang isa pang pagpupulong sa Setyembre. Bilang punong ahensya ng ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) pillar, itataguyod ng DTI ang isa sa mga tema ng ASEAN tungkol sa “sama-sama at makabagong pagsulong.” Ang dalawang iba pang pillars ay tumutugon sa usaping pang-seguridad at pang-kultura. NAPOLCOM commends cops in ASG encounter
TAGBILARAN CITY, August 31, 2017 (PIA) –The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) in Region 7 handed out commendations to the Provincial Director and 18 Bohol police officers for taking measures to intercept and stop the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) from sowing terror in Bohol. The awarding of commendations also came during the Regional launching of the National Crime Prevention Week held at the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbilaran City, August 31. The NAPOLCOM also handed out a post humus commendation to PO2 Rey Anthony Nazareno who rendered a selfless sacrifice when he was killed in action during an encounter against heavily armed terrorists in Inabanga. Aside from a commendation, PO2 Nazareno got a gratuity pay of P203,208 as a one year’s salary equivalent to 16,934 monthly pay, funeral benefits worth over 30,000and special financial assistance from the Philippine National Police. Egyptian authorities have restored the country’s Internet connection after about 5 days of being shutdown starting January 28, 2011. Mobile phone service was also shutdown shortly after the Internet service providers pulled the plug. Protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his government has been going on for several days and the disconnection was viewed as a way to disrupt communications among protest organizers. The protesters stood their ground, but thousands of Mubarak supporters clashed with them in Cairo. Hundreds of people have been killed in the violence while thousands more are injured. Connectivity was restored on February 2 at 11:34AM local time in Egypt. The Internet has now become a very powerful tool to communicate with a vast amount of people and has become the media of choice to instantly send and receive messages through various social networks like Twitter and Facebook. The ability of the Egyptian government to shut it down in a time of civil unrest is a wake up call to all democratic nations. The Internet should be protected as a media for freedom of expression, much like TV, radio and print media. Not to mention that for most of the foreigners caught between Egypt’s civil unrest, the internet and their mobile phones may be the only way they could communicate with their family back home. Let us hope that the Philiippine government will not allow the Internet to be shutdown in our country, no matter how bad the situation may become. DTI Bohol hands in car to BISU-Tagbilaran
THE Bohol Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) transfers a government vehicle without any cost to Bohol Island State University (BISU) in simple ceremonies last week. Provincial Director Ma. Elena Arbon said the office came up with the decision as they are confident that their SAX 764, a Toyota Corolla 1982 would be in better hands with BISU. She added that the office also believes the transfer goes a long way to help BISU auto-mechanic students upgrade their practical skills in the industry. The government car, bearing plate number SAX 764 has been in good running until the government austerity measures prevented the office from costly repairs citing that it would even be more cost efficient to transfer the ownership of the vehicle. Arbon added that the turn-over also makes BISU agree to rehabilitate and recondition the engine while the vehicle would be in their keep. At the simple turn over ceremonies at the FCB carpark, BISU Tagbilaran, through Professor Fernando Restificar accepted the keys and the task of rehabilitate and recondition the vehicle through their auto mechanics students. Aside from Arbon, also present during the turn over were Mercy Matalines, DTI Administrative Officer -Designate, Marisol Balistoy, BDD DIvision Chief, Lucille Autentico – HR Designate and Concordia Erano – Property Inspector.
