Auza.Net Completes Summer 2015 OJT Program

Auza.Net has completed its Summer 2015 On-the-Job Training (OJT) program on June 6, 2015. The trainees, composed of 10 students from different campuses of Bohol Island State University and University of Bohol, received their certificates of completion signed by the company’s technology consultant, Jerome Auza.

The trainees completed various projects which include conversion of web site designs to use a mobile friendly template, graphics editing and data entry for a point-of-sale system. They also performed actual outsourced data entry and processing required by a European company.

For the first semester of school year 2015, the company will again hire OJTs to continue the outsourced data entry and processing as well as participate in other projects to be done in the coming months. Applications for the OJT program are still being accepted. Interested candidates should email their resumes and application letters to jobs@auza.net.

BABALA

In english, the word simply means caution.

The word however is coined from Bangsamoro Basic Law (BABALA), which to some quarters, is nothing but the hot potato in the widely rejected Memorandum of Agreement on Ancestral Domains (MOA-AD).

For want of exhaustive information, we could hardly tell which is which but with our politicians track record of laziness, we could assume it as a pasted copy of the former.

Like the MOA AD now, the government negotiators, again handpicked by the Administration just assumed Bangsamoro is just Moro Islamic Liberation Front, who speaks for the whole tribes of Mindanao.

In last week’s Senate hearing, we learned that key groups in the proposed Bangsamoro region were never consulted about the peace agreement with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front or BBL that was drafted to implement it.

President Aquino’s handpicked peace negotiators assumed too much. For the pay they get, they thought MILF speaks for the entire region. Without the consent of the sultanates of Mindanao, the local government officials in the affected region and neighboring provinces, the Moro National Liberation Front and the non-Muslim people who live there, including indigenous peoples, the BABALA is a red flag.

Confronted with such a yawning deficiency in its proposed law, the administration has offered no other solution than to plow ahead with what is now clearly an artificial deadline: the SONA.

That is the biggest infirmity and hell, it could kill the BABALA for good. But not, with this President.

Instead, President Aquino reverted to gangster tactics that worked for him in the past: bribing lawmakers with pork like Coronas impeachment, and threatening to prosecute those who cannot be swayed with bribes.

In Bohol, the OPAPP brings its much belated BABALA consultation, after Boholanos have mocked on a sagging presidential popularity. Too late.

After the house committee deliberations, why the consultations now? And it was not even consultation, it was what a mediaman called indoctrination.

OPAPP denies having to do with it, but the reimbursement papers say otherwise.

CODE NGO, a group closely associated with DSWD Dinky Soliman and the HYATT on that day rammed “their version” of the BBL to innocent participants, with much of Boholano innocence and naivety, it could probably pass find.

What did not pass was the readymade manifesto saying Boholanos supporting the BBL. And the pre-printed post cards telling somebody up there that Boholanos support the BBL was documented too. Such treason.

Of the invitees, many were students who could not vote, and were offered money to attend.

Its damning and we hate to believe this.

But of course, with government bankrolling events like this, any signature in the liquidation papers or attendance can be used-traditional politicos style.

That again is another BABALA.

Google now uses mobile capability as a search rank criteria

Late in April 2015, Google announced that it will start using the mobile device capability of websites as a criteria for search ranking. In the announcement, Google said that “Now searchers can more easily find high-quality and relevant results where text is readable without tapping or zooming, tap targets are spaced appropriately, and the page avoids unplayable content or horizontal scrolling.”

In the increasingly mobile market, Google included the “mobile friendliness” of a website as a criteria for mobile search results. This is an obvious evolution of Google’s search engine algorithm as mobile devices continue to dominate the Internet over desktop computers.

This is an important announcement for website owners because website viewers are increasingly using their mobile devices to look up information on the Internet. With Google’s algorithm change, the loss of website traffic could be significant especially if many of the viewers for a particular website prefer to use mobile devices. Website owners should seriously consider updating website designs using mobile friendly templates.

Aside from a design that fits on a mobile device, the design should also adapt to the screen size of the mobile device. On top of that, the use of unnecessary content should be avoided because mobile users expect websites to load quickly and not consume their mobile data allocations. This means websites should void having heavy graphics, video or audio files that play automatically and excessively long text content.

Fortunately for website owners, converting to a mobile friendly design is straightforward if they work with an experienced website management company. There are many mobile friendly templates that are very customizable yet highly adaptive to multiple screen sizes. Any company should ensure their websites have the proper content and design in order to take advantage of the Internet in marketing its products and services.

To test if your website is already mobile friendly, use Google’s Mobile Friendly Test tool.

Geeks on a Beach (GOAB), the international tech confab which returns this August 2015 to Boracay Island, gets backing from Air Asia Philippines.

In the event launching today at the Azia Suites in Cebu City, GOAB organizers announced that AirAsia Philippines CEO Joy Caneba will be giving the keynote address during GOAB in behalf of Asia’s leading and largest low-cost carrier.

“AirAsia Philippines is excited to take part in an event renowned to be the International Summit for Tech, Startups and Design in the country. We are more than glad to share our own experience of building tech innovations that enhance the lives of ordinary people,” said Caneba.

GOAB has been providing an international platform for startups or innovation-driven enterprises, technopreneurs, and designers with a laid back yet productive interaction and discussion on technology, entrepreneurship, and actual business opportunities.

Caneba said that AirAsia Philippines’ backing of GOAB is a reaffirmation of the seriousness of its efforts to take roots in the Philippines by supporting its budding tech and startup communities.

The airline has earned a reputation for making air travel experience more convenient through tech innovations such as the mobile, web, and kiosk check-ins.

GOAB’s lead organizer TechTalks.ph, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering Filipino tech entrepreneurs and promoting the Philippine tech sector to the world, emphasized that this year’s event will be about less the hype and more action.

“Our success these past 2 years has pushed GOAB to return to Boracay Island this August 20-21 with a triple splash — triple number of innovative minds, triple funding opportunities, and triple doses of fun,” said Tina Amper, TechTalks.ph founder.

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), the country’s leading wireless service provider, and IdeaSpace, the largest privately-backed early stage startup incubator in the country, have also consistently supported GOAB for the past three years since the event’s first staging in Boracay.

“This year marks a transition of the Philippine startup ecosystem – from potentials to success stories. The 3rd Geeks on a Beach will be as exciting as ever as we go back to Boracay – a convergence of the best minds in the country with the best beach in the world.” said Earl Martin S. Valencia, president at IdeaSpace and VP for corporate innovation and strategy at Smart.

Also expressing support in behalf of the Smart Developer Network is Paul Amerigo Pajo, senior manager and developer evangelist at Smart. “Developers want to meet startups. Startups want to meet developers. Geeks On A Beach is one of the few events that cater to both.”

“SMART and IdeaSpace have been with us from the very beginning. And now we also have AirAsia with us. We are very happy to have more and more businesses, seasoned entrepreneurs, and even people from government backing GOAB,” said Amper.

She said that twenty tech champs in the world have so far confirmed their attendance to speak before an expected 600 participants from across the globe.

Some of the speakers include IdeaSpace President, Earl Valencia; Monk’s Hill Ventures Managing Director, Kuo-Yi Lim; Kickstart Ventures President, Minette Navarrete; Rappler CEO, Maria Ressa; SMART Communications Developer Evangelist, Paul Pajo; Department of Science and Technology-Information and Communication Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) Deputy Executive Director, Mon Ibrahim; and 500 Startups Managing Partner, Khailee Ng.

Cloud based accounting system – is it right for your company?

By: Jerome J. Auza

Anyone in business, big or small, need to do the necessary but very tedious work of accounting. In a fast paced business environment, manual accounting may not be ideal as it can be prone to human errors. Even the use of spreadsheet applications like Excel, will still be prone to errors because implementing the accounting rules and procedures will still depend on the human operator.

The good news is that there are many desktop based accounting system software. But for businesses that have multiple branches and are spread out across a large area and across islands, keeping a local accounting system will still be inconvenient as each branch try to synchronize accounting data regularly.

A solution that would work very well for companies with many branches is a cloud based accounting system. Using a browser, the users can post transactions and immediately, that the posted transactions will reflect on the system. For example, if branch A sold a product, after posting the invoice or POS transaction for that sale, the income statement may be viewed and that transaction will be immediately reflected on the report.

The CloudLedger system is a full featured double entry ledger system that is deployed by Auza.Net on a cloud server and offered to SMEs. The largest deployment of CloudLedger is a company with 40+ branches with hundreds of transactions per day.

CloudLedger includes Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables and Financial Statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Trial Balance and Chart of Accounts). Also included are Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, Quotations and a basic Point-of-Sale system.

Because CloudLedger is deployed on the cloud, there is no need to install and maintain a local server. It is provided as a monthly service with no long term contracts, thus the cost of the system can be spread out on a monthly basis.

For security, access to the CloudLedger account is restricted via VPN or IP address access control.

To inquire about the CloudLedger system, please email to info@auza.net.
