Airtime poll ads, limitahan na sa Comelec; Online campaigning, bantayan na usab

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, Jan. 17 (PIA)–NAGPAGAWAS na og bag-ong tamdanan ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) kalabot sa gipaabot nga grabeng pagpangampanya sa mga mokandidato sa umaabot nga eleksyon. Matud pa ni Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes, 120 minuto na lamang ang mahimong i-ere sa telebisyon ug 180 minuto sa radyo ang mga campaign ad sa matag kandidato alang sa mga national positions. Gi-klaro ni Brillantes nga dili na “per station” ang pag-ihap sa airtime alang sa mga campaign ad ug ang maong gitas-on sa panahon alang sa campaign ads nga napatik sa bag-ong tamdanan sa Fair Elections Act o Republic Act 9006 “aggregate” o usahon na sa pag-ihap. Samtang 60 minuto lamang sa telebisyon ug 90 minuto lamang sa radyo alang sa mga campaign ads ang tugtan sa Comelec alang sa mga kandidato sa mga lokal nga posisyon. Si Brillantes nagkanayon nga maapil na sa giingong mga gitugtang gitas-on sa panahon sa campaign ads ang mga TV ug radio guesting sa mga politiko. Katambayayong sa Comelec ang citizen’s arm nga Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) ug National Citizens’ Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) sa pag-monitor sa mga pagpangampanya sa telebisyon ug radyo. (RAFI) Culture & Heritage and the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU)-School of Humanities announces the extension of submission of application requirements for the annual Ateneo Arts Workshop Cebu (ArtsWork Cebu) until Jan. 31. RAFI and AdMU-School of Humanities will hold this year’s ArtsWork Cebu on April 22 to 26 at Casa Gorordo Museum, Cebu City. The five-day activity is an opportunity for high school students from Cebu to participate in any of the three art workshops: a) Creative Writing: The Literary Essay; b) Theatre Arts: Basic Acting and Stage Performance; and c) Visual Arts: Introduction to Drawing and Painting. Lecturers from AdMu will facilitate the workshops. Facilitators of the workshops are Martin Villanueva, a two-time Palanca Awardee and coordinator of AdMu’s Creative Writing Program; Laura Cabochan, a young theatre actress and moderator of the Ateneo Blue Repertory; and Jason Moss, a contemporary visual artist and a lecturer for the Industrial Design program at AdMU. Since 2010, young artists from both private and public high schools have joined the workshops. Its aim is to make the participants discover their artistic potential and develop self-confidence. Drugs, murder, rape top jail population

TAGBILARAN CITY, October 31, (PIA)—Next to inmates with crimes in violation of the dangerous drugs act, prisoners facing murder charges and theft comprise the top three most populations in Bohol jails. In a report rendered by Jail Inspector Jose Rusylvi Abueva, jail statistics revealed that of the 1038 population of Bohol jails under the Bureau of jail Management and Penology (BJMP), inmates with drug cases comprise 51.34%. Of the inmates with drug related cases, most of them, or 301 of 553 or 54.43% are committed at the Bohol District Jail (BDJ), formerly the Bohol Detention and Rehabilitation Center. On the other hand, 19.69% or 105 of those detained for drugs are held at the Tagbilaran City District Jail (TCDJ) while 21.75% of these inmates facing drug suits are at the Talibon and Ubay District jails (UDJ), according to the BJMP. After drug related cases, is murder, of which 118 are currently being detained to answer to the allegations in court and are awaiting for the dispensation of their cases. Detainees facing murder comprise 11.36% of jail population in the five jails under the BJMP supervision, Inspector Abueva pointed out. BDJ, the main jail for the province also commits 52.54% of detainees facing murder charges, while TCDJ has 19.495 or 23 inmates answering to murder. UDJ also keeps 11.86% of inmates facing murder cases in courts. This is 14 inmates, Abueva report showed.
