ESCA Knowledge Academy digitizes the construction industry

The Construction Manpower Development Foundation recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on 7 February 2018 with ESCA Knowledge Academy (Multi-disciplinary Institute of Technology Inc.), a recognized training provider of CMDF. The MOA aims to accelerate and expand training delivery of the Enhanced Construction Managers Training and Certification Program (ECOMTCP) by recognizing certificates issued by ESCA Knowledge Academy as completion of an elective module for ECOMTCP. As a part of this MOA, CMDF recognized its first ECOMTCP elective through ESCA Knowledge Academy’s BIM 100: Digitizing the Built Environment which was conducted in partnership with the PCA Technical and Education Foundation on 23-24 February 2018 in the PCA Training room. ESCA Knowledge Academy, a recognized training provider of CMDF, conducts trainings on Building Information Modeling (BIM). BIM is one of the elective modules under ECOMTCP, it is a digital process encompassing geometrical dimensions, time management and scheduling, cost management and estimates, sustainability, and facility management. As the Philippines enters a new era of infrastructure boom, this technological advancement in the construction industry digitizes the process from pre-construction to maintenance which can improve productivity and efficiency, help contractors meet timelines and assist government in ensuring quality and transparency in projects. Since BIM builds a structure virtually before physical construction, this allows stakeholders to work in a collaborative digital environment where changes will be less costly and less time consuming. The partnership demonstrates the government’s drive for technological advancement in the field of construction for a globally competitive... read more

Crimes in Bohol slide down 29% in October

TAGBILARAN CITY, October 31 (PIA)—Crimes in Bohol slid down 29% or 157 cases less in October compared to the previous month, as law enforcement authorities continue to innovate and lessen crime opportunities here. September this year recorded 533 crimes all over Bohol, compared to the 376 crimes reaching police blotters all over Bohol, according to a report from Bohol’s Provincial Police Office, Camp Dagohoy. The same crime reports, delivered before the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Meeting October 30, showed similar decreasing trend in both index and non-index crimes in the month. October showed 219 index and 157 non index crimes while September had 299 and 234 respectively. This showed both 26 and 33% decreases with in the month, data showed. In fact, according to police reports, about 40% or 108 of the 376 crime cases in Bohol in October are traffic-related and have something to do with poor traffic rules enforcement. These include 80 cases of traffic related incidents causing physical injury cases, 27 cases of damage to property and one single case of homicide, statisticians at Camp Dagohoy...

Less those with drug suits, Bohol jails less populated

TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol, October 31 (PIA) –To simply look at it, drastically cutting Bohol jail population is as simple as making ways to take out those facing drug suits, of which number over half of the 1038 committed in the five jails here. That however is easier said than done. The situation is made bleaker with the continuing uptrend in the number of drug cases filed, even at the level of the Regional Trial Courts. According to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) from July to September, the RTC saw 125 drug cases filed before it. That same span of time of three months, Bohol only saw six convictions, three acquittals and five dismissed cases, PDEA bared at the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) meeting October 30. At this current rate, curbing the swelling population at the jails may not be as easy. A report delivered by Bohol District Jail warden, Jail Senior Inspector Jose RusylviAbueva at the recent Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting revealed that persons committed in Bohol jails due to drug related problems number 541. In his report, Inspector Abueva, who also administers four more jails aside from the BDJ, showed that violations against Republic Act 9165 significantly populate the jails, several times over murder which ranks second among the top crimes committing persons in detention centers. At the BDJ for example, as of October 26, 2015, of the 541 presently detained in jails, 321 are kept to be easily available for the different stages of case litigation from pre-trial conferences, arraignment, trial and those awaiting promulgation or service sentences. At the Tagbilaran City...

DA to put up trading Post in Bohol –Alcala

MANILA, October 20, (PIA)—Agriculture secretary Proceso Alcala reveals government plan to put up a good and strategic trading post in Bohol. This is in line with the bid to elevate the agro-industry production here and create a local source for the demand for vegetables here. The plan could also maximize high value commercial production in Bohol, especially that the highlands in Jagna, Duero and Sierra Bullones have proven to be good for vegetable farming. But, with vegetables as easily damaging crops unsuitable for long storage and uncertain market connection, most farmers would rather not pant than waste these in the process of getting to the markets. Alcala, who came to Bohol as guest of honor and speaker during the World Food day celebration in Bohol October 14, told Boholanos that about 50-60% of vegetables consumed here come from outside Bohol. Many believe such is so because Boholanos do not see vegetable production as profitable without the proper market assistance and infrastructure set up. “It is high time that we put up a good strategic trading post in Bohol,” Alcala announced during the jampacked crowd gathered at the Bohol Cultural Center. Already a set up infrastructure technology during the previous administration, the trading post concept is a resurrection of the “bagsakan centers,” which then Agriculture secretary Artur Yap implemented in his term. “We refuse to call it bagsakan anymore,” Alcala said, “because even before it could soar, it has already fallen,” he quipped, unmindful of the presence of the former aggie chief in the stage. The Quezon born former congressman and now agriculture czar asserted that a trading post still...

Alicia mulls to open MTB Cambaol adventure trail

TAGBILARAN CITY, October 12 (PIA)–The first local government pushed mountain trail bike (MTB) trail in Bohol is now in the offing, thanks to the vision of Alicia Mayor Marnilou Ayuban and local authorities, who see that beyond the town’s grassy hills are interconnecting opportunities for sports and wellness. Short of easy to develop tourism spots despite a trove of potentials, the rolling hills and the different high this can give to those who indulge are a better bet against the town’s almost inaccessible caves. Alicia’s stunning rolling hills and trails leading to sauntering peaks are easy giveaways to trail bikes, shared Godelia Lumugdang, town tourism and information officer during a test run on their 8.6 kilometer circuit Saturday, October 10. She said Alicia wants to hitch into the tourism bandwagon and its hills also caught the fancy of a tourism product development officer at the Bohol Tourism Office. Last Saturday, a team of 21 mountain bikers from Antequera, Alicia and Duero took over two hours of rough single trail conquering ridges through nearly impossible ascents and downhill trails of the rolling hills in Camba-ol, the town’s identified mountain-bike showcase. “It is a challenge of how one can keep up with the big rings in seemingly endless climb and then the downhill is just wicked,” a biker from Antequera admit. “Dropper seat post is recommended,” he added. The bike course starts at the Cambaol barangay hall, just below the police camp and follows a barangay road that graduates into an eroded crude carabao cart trail. Then it builds up on elevation, fording creeks, footbridges and then across tricky sandy loam...

Jagna barangay road sinks over 3 meters

CANTUYOC, Jagna October 3 (PIA)–A barangay road descending to Canjulao from Barangay Cantuyoc in Jagna town disappears three meters below making the Cantuyoc-Canjulao access impassable to wheeled traffic. Access is only through foot trail and that is hardly an easy one. The cut barangay road link, makes travel to Cantuyok circuitous as the only road link open is through Tubod Monte, then to Malbog before skirting again to Cantuyoc, explains Barangay Chairman Geronimo Daguplo. The new route is about twice longer than the usual over 3 kilometers using the broken barangay road to Canjulao and then to Pagina and Poblacion Jagna. Last week, Jagna Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla shared the report to local papers, when the landslide pushed down some 3 feet of the road. The consequent report had the mayor telling that the depression has sunk further down to 6 feet. Continuous rains which fell during the ending days of September has caused the already burdened portion of the barangay road which has a culvert draining into it. Landslides however is nothing new in Jagna, which had towering cliffs and tall limestone mountains burdened by overgrown trees which also contributes to the strain the already saturated land is carrying. Years back, a major landslide in Barangay Mayana buried houses, dislocated a basketball court and chapel bringing them across a national road and moving ricefields meters away. In Sitio Taytay, Cantuyoc, the landslide appears to be a contiguous hectare of land chopped off the hills, but instead of toppling down, it moved sideways as the base gritted under the sheer weight of the chunk chipping off. The slid portion starts...
