FULL military honors will be accorded to then Armed Forces chief of staff Angelo Reyes, a
Malacanang official said Tuesday.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said he was told by Defense Secretary Voltaire
Gazmin that military honors will be given to Reyes since he was not proven guilty of the
alleged corruption in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“He is an innocent man for now… there is a presumption of innocence so there should be no
accusation of guilt for now,” Lacierda said.
He also noted that Reyes served in the military so it is proper to give him honor by the AFP.
Lacierda said he will leave it to the discretion of the AFP should the remains of Reyes be laid
to rest in the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Reyes committed suicide Tuesday morning by shooting himself while visiting the tomb of his
mother at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina.
He is survived by his wife Teresita and his five sons, Pablo, Angelito, Marc, Carlo and Judd.
