PGMA mounts on missions to Turkey, UK, Saudi Arabia

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be on a three-country mission to Turkey, United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia this week. The objective for the trip will be to look after the well-being of the overseas Filipino workers and to fortify bilateral relations and economic cooperation with.

On September 16, the President will leave for a one-day state to Turkey, a Eurasian country which is the only secular Muslim nation in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

From Turkey, the President is set to proceed to the United Kingdom to deliver a keynote address in The Emerging Markets Summit organized by The Economist magazine on September 17-18.

Over 300 business leaders and investors from all over the world are expected to participate in this prestigious forum which has for its theme “Globalization Redefined by Emerging Markets.”

On September 21 -23, President Arroyo will proceed to Saudi Arabia upon the invitation of King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.

The President will grace the official inauguration of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Thuwal, Rabigh, Saudi Arabia on September 23.

Saudi Arabia, through its membership in the OIC Ministerial Committee of Six, which facilitated the forging of Government of the Republic of the Philippines-Moro National Liberation Front (GRP-MNLF) peace agreement, has been a supporter of the peace process and development in Southern Philippines.

President Arroyo is expected to be back in the Philippines on September 24 or 25. (PIA)
