PGMA signs Magna Carta on Women

RA 9710 or the Magna Carta of Women advocates on the promotion of equal rights among women prohibiting their discrimination and protection of their rights.

The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), formerly the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women, under the Office of the President is tasked to oversee the implementation of the law by all government agencies including Philippine embassies and consulates abroad.

Local government units and government-owned and controlled corporations are also mandated to implement the provisions of the law.

The Magna Carta on Women is also applicable to Filipino women working overseas as Philippine embassies and consulates shall designate a gender focal point in respective consular section who shall be trained on gender and development in handling gender concerns of women migrant workers, especially those suffering in distress.

The PCW will be the primary policy-making and coordinating body for women and gender equality concerns and will likewise ensure that government agencies are effectively implementing the law. (PIA/FCR)
