President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo wants all projects she has committed under her State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA) to be completed by December 2009.
Presidential Management Staff (PMS) Sec. Hermogenes Esperon, together with Public Works and Highways Usec. Rafael Yabut, arrived in Cebu and immediately conducted an on-site inspection on the status of the construction of the Cansaga Bay Bridge.
After learning that the P2.3B CNCRP has no substantial improvements more than a year after its groundbreaking, Pres. Arroyo ordered the contractors to work 24 hours, seven days a week and instructed the DPWH to fast track the completion of the project.
By December this year, the road project will have been substantially completed.
The project is divided into two packages. Under the contract package, Package 1 involves the road approaches from the Mandaue side dubbed ‘Approach A’ and the ‘Approach B’ is the road connecting to the town of Consolacion while the construction of the Cansaga Bay Bridge is part of the Package 1, this is learned.
The only factor that could cause a delay in the project is natural calamity and that without it, the project will be substantially be completed by yearend per instruction of the President.
Esperon said they are continuously inspecting other SONA projects and pump-priming projects all over the country based on the directive of Pres. Arroyo that these projects be completed by yearend. (PIA/FCR)
