According to the Social Weather Stations’s 3rd quarter hunger incidence survey, the proportion of families experiencing involuntary hunger at least once in the past three months declined to 17.5 percent from 20.3 percent in the previous quarter.
The 2.8 percentage point decline in Overall Hunger between June 2009 and September 2009 resulted from a 1.5 percentage point decline in Moderate Hunger, combined with a 1.3 percentage point decline in severe Hunger.
Across the major regional groupings, overall hunger sharply declined by 10 percentage points in Mindanao, 2 percentage points in the Visayas and by almost 1 percentage point in Luzon but rose by over 2 percentage points in Metro Manila. (National Nutrition Council/PIA)
