For the coming 2010, the 45th Conference of the South East Asia Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Council and the 5th meeting of the ASEAN Education Ministers will be hosted by Philippines. The aforementioned events will be on January 26-30 at Mactan Shangrila, Cebu City.
This information was disclosed by Department of Education Secretary Jesli Lapus, the incoming president of both SEAMEO Council and ASEAN Education Ministers.
The annual SEAMEO Council Conference is the largest gathering of education leaders in the Asia-Pacific region. It is attended by the ministers of education and senior officials of member countries, representatives of associate member countries, affiliate members, SEAMEO Center directors, secretariat, and officials and observers from donor governments and international organizations.
SEAMEO is a chartered international organization whose purpose is to promote cooperation in education, science and culture in the Southeast Asian region.
The SEAMEO Council Conference (SEAMEC) coincides with the annual meeting of the Council of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization consisting of education ministers of the 11 SEAMEO Member Countries, namely, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
