San Miguel inaugurates various infra projects

SHOWING what good intentions in public service could do, in a rare move, San Miguel Claudio Bonior donated his P300K prize as model mayor to help erect the new P.7 M municipal library and information center here.

During the inauguration of the facility that would also house the municipal tourism, information, archive and the Secretary to the Sanggunian last Tuesday, August 25, Mayor Bonior said he has long dreamt about the facility than can be the source of key developmental information to help his people.

Fully believing in people empowerment as a potent tool for poverty alleviation based on their experience of the community driven development (CDD) approach adopted for their government projects, opening up a venue for information sharing would enhance the approach, the mayor said.

It may be recalled that the town adopted the CDD approach for the Department of Social Welfare and Development Kapit-bisig Laban sa Kahirapan (KALAHI) Community Integrated Delivery Social Services (CIDSS), one that also pushed the mayor into the limelight for being a model in the project implementation.

The award came with a plaque of appreciation and P300K cash, one which the mayor also used to finance the municipal library and information center.

Seeing the nobility of the move, the local government unit and the Poblacion Barangay Council also pitched in about P400K to complete the municipal facility.

The inauguration day was also marked with the formal turn over ceremonies of the last batch of KALAHI funded projects: four farm to market road rehabilitation and spillways for town barangays, PLGU funded two-classroom school building project, municipal water supply and spillway along Cresino Street and blessing of the shredder machine for the town’s bio-composting project, added Vice Mayor Jonathan Reyes.

And it was not an activity timed for the big day here.

Turned over were FMRS in San isidro to Chairman Greg Bontog, Mahayag to Chairman Ester Hormachuelos, Capayas to Chairman Marcos Persigas and Tomoc to Chairman Francisco Cañedo, reported information officer Menandro Pesquera.

Some of the roads included spillway construction as proposed by the community.

Guests attending the one-day town bash were DSWD 7 Management Division Chief, DSWD Bohol field office team leader Papiasa Bustrillos, Felixberto Camacho for Board Member Ma. Fe Camacho Lejos. (PIA)
