Starting SY 2009, Nursing will be 5 years of schooling

Starting this June, when classes start, students who will take up a degree in Engineering, Architecture, Nursing and Accounting will now need 5 years to complete their course.

The change, which is included in the recommendation of the Presidential Task Force on Education according to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s decree, is for the betterment of the system of education in the country; as said by Chairman Emmanuel Angeles of Commission on Higher Education(CHED).

This change should not be shocking since Nursing students are required to take 3 summer terms which is equivalent to one year.

Besides the 5 year schooling, it is also suggested by the task force the formula 10 + 2 + 3 or 10 years of elementary and highschool, 2 years of pre-university studies, and 3 years of baccalaureate studies. (PIA)
