PGMA signs new adoption law
Malacañang unveiled that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has already signed Republic Act 9523, otherwise known as “An Act Requiring the Certification of the DSWD to Declare a ‘Child Legally Available for Adoption’ as a Prerequisite for Adoption Proceedings.”
The new adoption law requires the Department of Social Welfare and Development a certification that a child is legally available for adoption before the start of any adoption proceedings.
The latest adoption law now requires a certification signed by the DSWD Secretary in lieu of a judicial order.
Under the new law, said certification, by itself, shall be the sole basis for the immediate issuance by the local civil registrar of a foundling certificate. (PIA)
