“The Philippines is already composed of 42,008 barangays,” this was the statement of the National Statistical Coordinating Board (NSCB).
According to NSCB Secretary General Romulo Virola in a press release, “13 new barangays were created last year that added to the masterlist of the Philippine Standard Geographic Code.”
As of December 31,2008, the Philippines is already composed of 17 regions, 81 provinces, 136 cities with 1,495 municipalities and 42,008 barangays, the NSCB said. (PIA)

KALAHI para sa Kalayaan now covers 600 conflict-affected barangay. This program is intended to put an end to the decades-old problem of communist insurgency and usher in peace and development in poverty stricken rural barangays.
The program’s ultimate goal is the achievement of sustainable peace in the community following the human security framework of freedom from want, freedom from fear, freedom from humiliation and exclusion.
In a Malacanang press report, it discloses that so far that a total of P1.442 billion has been raised to fund various infrastructure projects in the Kalayaan barangays. Majority of this amount has been transferred to the AFP Engineering Brigade under the National Development Support Command. (PIA )

With the proposed new tourism bill, local tourism players are expected to benefit much if PGMA will sign it.
In a Tourism Industry-Related Congress held in Davao City, Senator Richard Gordon together with tourism stakeholders tackled the new bill. Which according to him, features the establishment of tourism enterprise zones across the country thus expecting to boost the domestic tourism.
Gordon stressed that it is now the role of the LGUs to be more creative in having better tourism investments and to develop their tourism enterprise zone. (PIA)
