TESDA, DEPED host first jobs fair for Muslim workers
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Department of Education (DepEd)) hosted the first jobs fair for Muslim workers at the Philippine Trade and Training Center.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who was special guest, talked to young Muslim workers who are beneficiaries of the PGMA training for work scholarships.
The whole day fair is part of the TESDA, DepEd joint project, Technical Vocational Education and Training with Arabic Language and Islamic Value Education (TVET with ALIVE) which aims to provide skills training and livelihood opportunities to Muslim out-of-school youth.
According to Secretary Augusto Boboy Syjuco of TESDA, more than 1,000 Muslim youths have availed themselves of the free skills training in in-demand occupations and are now work-ready for postings in local and overseas jobs. Many of them, have passed the competency assessment and are now certified skilled workers, Syjico added. (PIA/Bohol)
