Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque assures the public that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will sign the Executive Order on Maximum Drug Retail Price (MDRP).
Duque discloses that the president is giving multinational drug companies up until July 18 to come up with their list of essential medicines which prices to be trimmed.
Presidential Spokesman Undersecretary Lorelei Fajardo said that the President instructed the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to revoke the license of companies which failed to comply with this requirement.
Medicines suggested by the DOH are those that are anti-diabetes, anti-asthma, anti-cancer, and antibiotics.
DOH is working on a two-tiered approach for the full implementation of the Cheaper Medicines Law. One is by way of competition through the entry of more generic drugs in the market and the other way is the Maximum Drug Retail Prices. (PIA)

The winners of the East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress 2009 Regional Photo Contest, which was organized by PEMSEA and co-sponsored by HP Philippines.
The contest running from July 2008 – February 2009, received more than 500 photographs by 187 photographers from 12 countries in the East Asian region: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Lao, Malaysia, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
The three grand prizewinners are: Youth Category – Mr. Rogie Eloise Abala (Philippines) for his photograph “Seaweed Planting”; Hobbyist Category – Mr. Ee Cheng Lee (Malaysia) for his untitled photo; and Professional Category – Mr. Tan Ee Long (Malaysia), for his “People and Birds Living Together in Peace”.
The grand prizewinners win an expense-paid trip to attend the East Asian Seas Congress 2009 including airfare, allowance, accommodations, and conference materials. HP printers will also be awarded to the 3 winners. (PEMSEA)

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, on a mission of peace and a more prosperous world, as she attends the 15th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Leaders Summit slated July 15-16 in Egypt.
With the theme “International Solidarity for Peace and Development,” the summit will be held at the Sharm El-Sheikh.
The President has been also pushing for the promotion of the rights of migrant workers, urgent efforts to address piracy in the high seas, and the revitalization of international finance institutions to help developing countries effectively address the current global economic crisis and similar crises that may arise in the future.
During the trip, the Philippines will also call for the active participation of all NAM members in the Special NAM Ministerial Meeting on Interfaith Dialogue and Cooperation for Peace and Development that will be held in Manila on December 1-3 this year. (PIA)

Filipinos are asked to leave the country eith proper papers when seeking employment abroad so as not to end up as unemployed workers and in danger of abuse and maltreatment.
Never leave the country unless you have a working contract through the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration(POEA) so that your welfare is ensured by proper Philippine authorities.
Most of the OFWs working abroad complain of insufficient government assistance because these were not properly documented and or their employment is not properly processed. Filipinos are also urged to follow the proper procedures through the POEA and not be fooled by fake recruiters who prey on innocent job seekers flaunting on faster methods. (PIA)
