A resolution opposing oil exploration in areas considered rich marine biodiversity was brought about during the Third International Assembly of the International League of People’s Struggle. The global activists, a group of anti- oil exploration signed the resolution and was unanimously approved by the anti-imperialist alliance, according to the Pamalakaya Information Officer, Gerry Albert Corpuz. Corpuz said, those who signed called for Otto Energy, NorAsia and the Philippine government to refrain from offshore mining in the 445,000 hectare Bohol- Cebu strait.
The activists group composes 339 activist members from 35 countries. The group expressed outrage over the conduct of oil and gas exploration and vowed also to campaign against off-shore mining of ExxonMobil in the Sulu Sea.
The concern militant fisher folk group, Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas, bared that the global activists group signed the resolution in Hong Kong on June 18-20, 2008 during the Third International Assembly of the International League of People’s Struggle.
