GSIS reminds pensioners to renew their active status

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) reminds pensioners nationwide, whose birth month falls this August to renew their active status this month. This is to ensure the continuous receipt of their monthly pension.

The uninterrupted receipt of the monthly pension of GSIS pensioners rests on their dutiful compliance with the annual renewal of active status (ARAS) requirement of the pension fund.

Pensioners now receive their monthly pension on the 8th day of every month, or the next banking day in case the 8th day falls on a weekend or holiday, instead of the previous schedule of the first banking day of every month.

The GSIS said the change in schedule was in response to numerous requests from pensioners to immediately resume the regular crediting of their pension in case their pension accounts are suspended due to their failure to renew their active status. With the new schedule, those who have renewed their active status on the last week or even on the last day of the previous month will be able to receive their pension immediately the following month. Extended CARP to benefit more farmer beneficiaries

The Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) will be extending by another five years, as President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed a consolidated version of the said bill. The new CARPER law is expected to benefit more farmer-beneficiaries as it will not just widen its coverage but provide necessary support to Agrarian Reform communities and beneficiaries.

The bill allocates P100-billion as outlay for land acquisition and distribution, support services, agrarian justice delivery, and other funding requirements during the extension period.

The CARPER bill covers all public and private agricultural lands as provided in Proclamation 131 and Executive Order No. 229, which also includes other lands of the public domain suitable for agriculture.

Under the measure, prioritization of coverage “is not necessary” and that after June 30, 2009 (the expiration of the original CAR law) the modes of acquisition will be limited to voluntary offer to sell and compulsory acquisition. (PIA)
